Anyone else have a ton of trouble doing this? In particular I find if I get used to wavedashing in one, I cannot do it in the other and vice versa. This is true both for regular wavedashing and doing it OOS.

Also, is it just me or are shields extremely different in Melee and PM? Even jumping out of them feels a lot different.

So yeah I was wondering how you guys that play both regularly manage to cope with these issues. Unless I'm the only one having them.

Most of the time if someone is going to bounce between the two, they won't play the same character in both. That way they don't get used to something in one and have it not work in both.

Melee mains:
Sheik, Young Link, Marth
P:M mains:
Diddy, Sheik, Mario

If I play Sheik in P:M, I play as a weaker version of my Melee Sheik. I do not Shino Stall, I don't ledgedash much, my Wavedash OoS is lacking, I don't wall-cling much, and I favor tilt combos heavily over grab DI mix-ups. This keeps my Melee Sheik toned at the expense of my P:M Sheik.

If I play the same character in both games, one is definitely going to be worse than the other.

The thing is it's not just a character specific thing. In general I have trouble wave-dashing especially OOS from one version to the other and vice versa. This leads me to believe the timing is just generally quite different between the two games as well as how jumping OOS works. On the other hand this might be why a lot of Melee players don't also play PM.

I mean I guess one solution is like you guys said to play a drastically different character to the point where the timings couldn't possibly be confused at all. But that's still pretty inconvenient even though I do like to play a lot of characters. I feel like Melee character specialists should be rewarded as well as PM players who learned Melee characters in it when they go back to Melee. They shouldn't be forced to switch for no other reason than non-standardized timings for basic options.

Edit:

Ah nevermind. I'm getting better at it for both now. I guess trying to relearn everything with a different controller type (recently switched over to GC controller for Smash) and then going back and forth between the two was not the best idea.

This for me personally
when it comes to melee characters
In melee I'm much more inclined to play characters like Falco or Marth
in P:M I'll play Sheik or Fox
The only character i play consistently in between the two is Falcon because for whatever reason it doesn't really bother me
Sometimes falco but thats much more rare for me.

I really have no problem switching to Melee to PM the only character thats similar to my Melee main is Wolf probably and I rarely use Wolf so that doesn't really mess up my Fox or Falco.

I have no trouble going back and forth between PM an Melee, personally. I play the same characters in both, as well as some new ones in PM. However, I find switching between PM and Brawl to be very difficult, mainly due to the fact that Lucario is so different. I don't play Brawl, anymore, because it messed up my timing for PM.

I have no trouble switching between them, I do not understand people who do. Only actually changed things mess me up, like having entirely useless ledge jumps and the absurd ledge occupancy making edgehogging absurdly easy in Melee. The engine in general feels close enough that it takes less than a single game to adapt when switching.
