SVB Smash Thread Fri 11th Sept - Sunday 13th Sept

Before voting please read this thread
Please take the poll seriously

This will be updated completely when SvB smash is fully confirmed but right now it's looking good and melee is definitely going to happen..
So keep this thread clean and no spam at all or I'll give infractions hands down.

SvB is a once a year event with big prizes and a huge turnout usually, considered to most likely be the most serious tournament of the year and prizes usually run at £10 with SE.. I'd also like to mention it's not just about the tournament, there will be FRIENDLIES setups for the 3 days running, which means you can play smash (INCLUDING BRAWL) and other games for 3 days..heck you dont even have to enter the tournament and just come to play smash

Right now I'm sorting out how the tournament is going to run, but there are a lot of problems to do with the costs and brackets. By the looks of it there is going to be this standard:

Venue Fee (3 days): £? (The venue does not provide housing)
Entry Fee: £10 (can't be changed)
Pools: Bo3 (..maybe Bo1)
Brackets (SE) (can't be changed)
Prize Pot 60/30/10 (might be changable)

And yes I discussed this with a few people already and the responses I got were negative, these were the 2 solutions they suggested:

- Split the pot more evenly such as

1 - 40%
2. - 20%
3 - 10%
4 - 7.5%
5 - 5%
7 - 2.5%

therefore it would encourage more people to join and have a chance of getting something back...think about it we got a community of 40+ smashers that would come and the prize would boom to £400 no problem

- Allow Double eliminatoin and then the pot can be 60/30/10, they get a longer tournament..and I think more people would travel for DE. But this of course takes up more time of SvB

Also Brawl might be included in SvB but yet again this takes up a lot of time, and people have to insure that there will be a turnout..even though the rules and costs may not be perfect

Well to be honest this is problematic and doubtful things can change and you guys have to look to the harsh reality of the serious tournament scene. It's most likely going to be £10 entry single elimination and you get to play everyone in your pool. The point of going to a tournament is to win, no matter what the prize is and how it's run the best players always shine..

I think you guys will have to adapt to this harsh reality and have an experience with a new ruleset.. in my opinion there's nothing wrong with it and you have plenty of time to save for such an awesome event

I'm going to post bullet proof's post in a sec to explain and I fully agree with him

Bullet Proof:

No.1 I have explained already that the groups are not single elim. Everyone plays everyone once. So if you have a 6 man group, then everyone will have 5 games. This is actually much better than Double elim groups cause you are graded on your over all performance, not just a potential 2 losses then off.

no.2 SVB is not going to be changed to Double elim and I wont make the exception for one game. This is unfair to other communities if they want the same thing and we do not want to deliver this kind of event. We want the fairest event that delivers a good safe system. There are flaws in both systems yes, but we have found that there are more with Double elim.

no.3 Prize structure:
Well that is yet to be confirmed, so stay tuned. I cant see 1-7 getting paid. 1-4 max. But we'll see.

Its funny that people should think £10 is alot of money (lol). Its peanuts, and if its to much for the smash community, why not just run Brawl instead and see what happens. At least if the community do not care, then we know not to bother in future. I Dont mean to sound harsh here, But at SVB last year people were paying £30 on the day to enter either Hyper, 3s, GG etc etc. And you are telling me that the Smash community wont want to pay £10??? If £10 puts them off, then at least let us know so we can put other games in there.

Every game has to have the same rules. Otherwise it isnt fair. SVB is a once a year event that we are trying to make one of the main events in the world. As we have learned over the years, International players actually laugh at events that are like £5 to enter and wont bother to show. Even some of our own guys will just treat it like some small side show that they can afford to miss. If smash is as big as you say with a dedicated community, how can they complain paying £10 tournament fee ONCE A YEAR.
-------------------------
Please dont see this as a grilling. No Im grateful for the input, but we have had all these discussions before and I cant change the tournament fees. These guys have 5 months to save up. Are you honestly saying that they cant save up cash between now and then?

-------------------------

I had a discussion with another tournament organiser from up North. He organises similar events but with other games. I told him that I wanted to charge everyone £15 entry to the event. He actually laughed at me and said it should be DOUBLED. So in effect, Neo Empire are (as always) the guys that are being nice as normal... LOL
-------------------------

If the day ever comes when we are sponsored by the Government and can throw cash round, I will run a free smash event and give 1st place A 4 Bedroom house, lamborghini and £100.000.

Why is he going on about £10 when we had the discussion earlier we didn't say £10 was too much lol we were just talking about the format :S only money issue i would have is the travel (if i dont book early) and the accommodation.

you know what, screw this poll cause it's not gonna change anything, the rules cant be changed and you guys just have to face up to a different ruleset for once.

I'll address the full ruleset and seeds for svb when all other organization stuff is done, so its up to you if you wanna travel for this but I'd recommend it as there'll be serious games, tons of friendlies and pools will still be a blast. Not to mention we get to watch all the fighter games finals in style!

It's most likely going to be pools, SE bracket with prize for top 3..or 5 max
