Do you think the Wii U version will speed up production after SSB3DS' release?

As you wonderful people know, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS will be launching Early September in Japan. BECAUSE OF THAT, they can send the 3DS copies to 'Murica to translate after it releases in Japan, then focus on JUST THE WII U VERSION. Which means...
FULL STEAM AHEAD! EVERYONE ON THE WII U DECK! CHOO CHOO!
Who knows? SSBU could release Early December when everyone on the team is just focusing on the Wii U version, instead of the 3DS and Wii U versions at the same time. So, what do you think? Will the Wii U version go full steam ahead? Or will it stay on the steady road? DISCUSS!

I see no reason for it not to. They're really trying to make sure things are 100% ready for release, so after the 3DS version drops, it'll be natural to shift gears. Still expecting holiday season/mid-late December.

I'm pretty sure it was confirmed that the game is being released before black Friday.

I don't know what the hell you're trying to say, River. Are you suggesting the Wii U version will get special developmental treatment because it's no longer being produced alongside the 3DS version? That's a no-brainer.

When was that? My personal guess for a release date has been Dec. 5 for a while, but if it's before Black Friday, that would make the most probable release date Nov. 21 (Nov. 28 is Black Friday, and Nintendo big releases are on Fridays these days). That's a significant point of difference, and I'm very interested in any source you have to this effect.

News to me. Source?
It's less to do with having a specific source, and more to do with Nintendo being foolish to launch Amiibo after Black Friday - that's why the date makes sense to me at least.

Well, by early August they will have no choice but to hand off their final product to production. Mr. Sakurai is a hard-working man. There will be nary more than a night of celebration before it's back to work for 3-4 months.

Keep in mind that a lot of the character data will be identical between the two versions. All of the balancing, revision, and character changes being implemented right now are for both versions. This means the last three months or so will be largely debugging, optimizing, graphic design (HD graphics are EXPENSIVE), optimizing, touching up existing graphics, cranking out trophies, refining the stages (who can use some love, believe me), working on any Wii U exclusive stuff and of course optimizing.

If they intend to have post-release balance patches, a small team will be analyzing character for a bit, and after a month or two they'll start lo look at character performance.

Charlie Scibetta, Sr. Director of Corporate Communications for Nintendo says they want to have the game out before black friday. I mean..... he doesn't say that yes its coming out before black friday but he says that they want it out before black friday so its only likely.

Uhhhh, dude, they're both already "full steam ahead". Both games are really only fixing bugs and some slight balancing this late in the development cycle. If you think they're not releasing the Wii U version at the same time as the 3DS version because they can't, you're nuts. It's a marketing move.

The Wii U demo crashed a lot while the 3DS one to my knowledge never did. While clearly both versions are past content addition and into quality control at this stage, I definitely do believe Wii U has more work left to be done. As Cap'nChreest so well pointed out though, they are apparently aiming for a November release so we're talking about just 2 extra months of dev time total (if we start measuring from September 13, the Japanese 3DS date) which is probably mostly going to be spent on bugfixing and general performance work (things like load times).

I hope so. While I didn't see the demo crash, I know that some crashes happened. Maybe with 3ds out of the way, finish the Wii U just in time for Black friday or Christmas, with less crashes!

I think that falls under "bug fixing".

Ugh, don't get my hopes up with a pre-Black Friday release. That would be awesome, but I'm still going to keep Dec 12 as the likely release date in my head. I was sure that "Summer 2014" for 3DS would be August, and here we are waiting till Oct 3rd.

Anyway, all the people behind the games are talented and experienced, so I think the date is more a matter of what is right for the game and for Nintendo instead of the result of doubling the work to finish the Wii U build on time.

By mid-August development for 3DS would be complete. I'm not so sure about the whole "full-steam ahead" thing. There's like 5 teams working across the Wii U and 3DS Smash Bros.

Sure, but I mainly think the 3DS version is largely done now. Just polishing some stuff, and whatnot.
