Preface: A different story mode, AGAIN? Yeah, here’s my take on it. There are two major differences between this and the SSE. For instance, we’re dealing with the real characters, not trophies. This was the only real gripe I had with the real adventure mode. Whenever a character died, they turned into a trophy. They could brought back to life just from another character touching them, thus making everyone effectively immortal. In this, when a character dies they stay dead. That means that death will actually mean something! Before anybody talks about “how important trophies are to Smash”, I realize that. It’s just that in Melee I got the feeling that the real characters were interacting in a story told with trophies.

Also, the characters are living in their respective locations. They still coexist (for the most part), it’s just a tad more confusing. This change means one thing that may piss a few people off. That thing is, Snake and anything involving the Metal Gear Solid series will not take part in it. Why, you ask. The way I see it there are two kinds of games, ones that could never happen and would have to be in some sort of alternate universe or something, and ones that could happen or have to many references to real world events for it to make sense in aforementioned alternate universe. Case in point, Metal Gear Solid. Trust me, MGS is one of my favorite series, it just wouldn’t work.

The last major difference is that there is no Sub Space, Master Hand and Crazy Hand are the main enemies. Here’s a description of them to keep in mind while reading. They’re powerful rulers of Smash, which is just a mix of all the series involved with a little extra. i.e. Final Destination, Battlefield, Fighting Polygons, Fighting Wire Frames, Fighting Allows, and the hands themselves. They can travel through time, space, and dimensions. They’re like Gods in a sense, but not quite. They are far from all powerful and they can be stopped. Final Destination, their home, is located near the top of their Earth’s atmosphere.

A few more things. The Zelda series involvement is after Twilight Princess, before Wind Waker, using this video as a point of reference. Also, characters that didn’t return from Melee will appear. It will have some dialogue, but not much. Don’t worry, the story will still be fairly simple like the original. Either way, I hope you enjoy it. Constructive criticism is appreciated.

--------------------

Level One:
Pit is flying leisurely through the clouds when a Wolfen suddenly flies by and shoots him in his left wing, severely damaging it. The Wolfen flies away and lands on Final Destination as Pit falls through the clouds. The pilot jumps out, and it’s non other than Wolf O’ Donnell. He says “Mission accomplished.” and Master Hand gives him a thumbs down as if to say Not quite.

We come back to Pit who’s falling through the sky at an alarming rate, holding his wing in pain. He looks down and sees a large canopy, then suddenly crashes through a tree house. He looks up to see a giant gorilla and a little chimp. Pit flinches, but realizes they’re friendly when Donkey Kong offers him a banana, to which Pit respectfully declines. A sepia tone flash back show recent events as Pit gets back on his feet. The Kongs nod, and Donkey explains that there’s not much they can do to help. Pit heads towards the door when an explosion is heard. Pit turns around and the smoke clears to reveal King K. Rool next to a cannon.

A boss battle begins after the player chooses the order for the characters. Due to his injury, Pit only has two jumps and his Up B is practically useless. Anyway, the boss fight begins, and it takes place in a 3D version of DK’s house from Donkey Kong Country. After Being defeated, another cut scene starts and King K Rool jumps onto his ship. Diddy, Donkey and Pit follow him and a level starts.

They go from the back of his ship to the front. Along the way you have to fight various Kremlins. After reaching the front another boss fight with K. Rool starts. After beating him, Master Hand drops in and grabs K. Rool, then brings him back to Final Destination. Master Hand scolds K. Rool “I see that those monkeys are to much for you to handle. In that case, I have a new mission for you. Go to Onett and take out a boy named Ness.” He looks at Wolf and continues. “As for you, go finish the job with the angel. I trust that you can handle the monkeys as well.”. Wolf nods. He jumps into the Wolfen and flies downward.

Expect Level 2 soon.

You know, the reason they chose immortal trophies is because they don't want to traumatize children.

Didn't stop the guys who made the original Transformers movie. The animated one. Tons of main characters died in that (
Namely Optimus
) and it's fan-base was younger than Smash's. Besides, it has a teen rating in case you didn't notice. They may as well have used it.

Then you obviously don't understand Nintendo's philosophy:

1) No complexity.
2) Kids-safe.
3) Fun above storyline.

You don't think the Legend of Zelda series is complex. You don't think it has a real storyline. What about Metroid? Need I say Paper Mario?
