I think I might sell my PS3 to buy a 3DS, because between the Geohotz bull**** and the couple dozen recent security breaches, I'm not inclined to give Sony any more money. SSB on the 3DS has just pushed me much further to that decision.

Honestly, even if it is Brawl-esque, I wouldn't be inclined to get super competitive on the 3DS so I could live with a super floaty Fischer-Price style smash (as long as the single player is good).

it sound like they're turning smash bros into a rpg with characters gaining experience and stuff. I feel sorry for all the people who think this game wont suck and are fooling themselves. Im sure this will appeal to a lot of kids and casual gamers who dont know anything about smash but definitely not to people who have played the last 3 games competitively.

My interpretation was that they are adding an optional rpg element to the game, while still retaining the standard multiplayer mode with nonpersonalized characters. Obviously for the competitive setting personal characters would not be allowed.

I'm a smash 64 player. Asking me to get excited about this is like asking me to get excited about Mortal Kombat 9- I mean, it might be a good game, I might play it someday, but it's not my game, and it won't be nearly as fun.

Uh, do you gain experience and level up? I think you meant a turn-based game. L2hateonbrawl

ANYWAYS, I'm not sure how I feel about this. An RPG style game could be awesome, but it could also be awful. I guess I'm kind of glad it'll be different, because if it was the same I feel like it would be another Brawl.

"Regarding planners, Sakurai noted that he's headed up all areas of game balance and character strength settings for past Smash Bros. This time, he's hoping to leave this area to the staff."

^Also not sure how I feel about this lol. Maybe the balance will turn out better, maybe it'll turn out worse. I thought it was interesting, though.

I'm definitely not going to get nearly as excited as I was for Brawl, since that was honestly the biggest disappointment of my life. But I guess I'll keep an eye on it.

I wonder how your char would evolve if it's an rpg. I guess it's only going to affect hitstun (like handicaps, but in your favour) and maybe power in %? It could be fun if you gain new attacks, but I wonder how they could do that. I mean they can't take out your smashes/upb/whatever at the beginning and make you gain it lol.

As long as multiplayer mode is normal, it's fine. It would be a real mess if you could use your super-buffed char in 1v1...

Remember: most important things are more floaty and less hitstun.

Maybe you get different options for your attacks, such as smashes. Start out with something mediocre.

or maybe you get to make a unique character, and build a moveset out of the normal cast as you level up. That would actually be really fun, I've always wanted to mix up the movesets in ssb64 (pikachu with lasers?).

You know, if there is a max level you can get to, there could be a separate competition setting that only used maxed out personal characters. Just in this case, deciding how to build your character would also be part of the competition.

sure, just so long as you can downgrade em too, not just upgrade

the chance that they'd actually make upgraded smashes that were always better than previous ones is pri small imo

when i first made this thread i was under the impression that smash 64 might be remade on the 3ds.
