Hey guys my name is Wes, ive been playing since N64 but watched my first competitive tournament during the CEO 2014 stream on twitch. It brought me back into playing melee and grouping my friends back into it as well. So after watching quite a few of the streams with local tournaments and big ones like EVO, I'd like to attend some of these and play if possible as well.

Im currently looking at "Mayhem" hosted by Mac D near LA in cali. (cant post links yet)
In general is it ok to enter if your are not an excellent player? i dont expect to get out of pools but i dont mind paying to join just to join for the sake of it.

Also in terms of joining these groups on facebook, i tried joining the socal melee, orange county melee, and the irvine melee groups but wasn't allowed to join i guess. I assume its because i wasnt using a real facebook since i dont have one. I can make one but was just wondering if there was somthing or someone to send a msg to before im able to join?

Hello, Kingsoggy! Welcome to the wonderful and fabulous world of Smashboards.

Of course it is okay to enter is you are not an "excellent" player. That is half the reason that people attend these events, they wish to get better at the game and have fun while doing so. It is all about connecting with the community. Do not let the skill-gap deter you.

I have no idea about the Facebook question to be honest.

:4yoshi: Welcome to Smashboards! :4yoshi:

Even if you're not an excellent player, tournaments are always a great way to practice and whatnot :D

And no idea about the facebook groups either, but maybe making a legit fb would work? -shrugs-

Welcome to the forums Kingsoggy!

If you're serious about competition/getting involved with the Smash community, it's highly recommended that you make it out to all the events that you can/would like to go to.It's going to take a lot of experience to reach a higher level (like in many RPGs :p) in your game, so best wishes to you there.

Regarding your FB question...definitely make one of those. When you make a request to join a closed group, the admin(s) of the group will decide whether or not to accept you (the majority of the time they'll accept with no questions asked). If you continue to have issues, just message one of the group's admins to resolve the problem.
