For one of my finals as a music education major, we are supposed to write or transcribe a piece for full orchestra. I chose the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess trailer song. For those of you who have no idea what its supposed to sound like, this is it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqUqxVKd5q0

Part of the final is to have the Symphony Orchestra site read it. (Note: this recording is the orchestra playing the piece for the very first time. So... it isn't perfect). Also, the recorder is rather crappy, so it picks up all the mistakes. :(

Also, I had the opportunity to conduct the orchestra myself, so a lot of the dynamics and tempo changes were obviously done by me. :D :D

The link to the free no hassle mp3 download is here:

Other than the obvious problems, I thought it sounded exactly like the trailer song (which was my goal). Obviously if we had time to rehearse, they would have played it near perfection. :D :D

Comments are welcome. ^_^

BYUI's brass section is terrible. Hahahaha. But that's something that you had no control over. Sounded awesome, though! Had you just linked me to the music without telling me you were the transcriber, I would have thought it was official sheet music.

Very good job! Didn't you tell me once upon a time you had some original stuff? If so, I wanna hear!

Hehehe Well, at sight reading anyways, I know they can do better than that.

Well good! That was the desired effect.

Yeah I do, but I don't have recordings of it. :( Maybe a crappy midi from Finale.

I've always wanted to do something like this, so I'm very very impressed!

Really not bad at all for a sightread - the beginning was superb, but several cracked pitches are never cool from the trombones...

It's still fantastic. Great choice of music overall!

Sight reading can be hard for a lot of people. I know I'm not the best at it. But when it doubt, drop out. ;)

Mostly there just needs to be a lot of focus, and I think they underestimated our pieces. Because every sightread recording sounded weird in spots.

I'm currently working on the Brawl theme. I don't have a choir, so... it will sound funny. I"ll have to give the voice parts to instruments as solos. Which is fine, orchestra transcriptions are used to it.

Then I want to work on an OOT and TP medley for Wind Ensemble. I don't really like writing for strings....
