Street Fighter from a Melee Perspective

Im looking to get into Street Fighter, but I have no idea what characters Id like to pick up and learn with. I understand the majority of the combo system, and other general fighting ideas that transfer from melee (use low lag normals to space int he neutral etc.) But Im looking more for street fighter characters that would kind of fit how I like to play, on a deeper level

Deeper level, key term. Don't say like "Dhalsim is basically like Marth because they both have big moves kinda" Noooo not what Im looking for. I play Marth because of a lot of things, but I guarentee you "big moves" isnt the biggest consideration. Same with every other character

Ok, so basically, characters I play a lot include Marth, DK, Fox, and Falco.

I enjoy Marth and Fox for their very customizable combo game
I enjoy Fox and Falco for their aspect of being able to control the flow of the match through pressure
I enjoy Marth's ability to control the match through making his space feel like a threat
I enjoy all of these characters ability to be able to convert huge off of one opening, even though finding an opening can be hard
I enjoy the fact that DK is not as good as other characters I play more seriously, but you can still bring the hype and make things happen with him in the pocket
I enjoy Fox and Falcos high APM ceiling, as I am pretty good at execution, however I have kinda bad hands so I am not as consistent (Therefore I main Marth, but can still do nutty technical space animal stuff)

More over everything, I enjoy being able to express myself through Fox and Marth, as they feel very blank slate, and that they have a lot of different ways to embellish on the idea of playing melee, and while melee as a game is praised for this overall (much deserved) I feel like Fox and Marth specifically embody the trait of being very simple, but their simplicity makes them very complicated, and malleable

If anyone deeper in SF can give me some kind of well thought out response after looking at this, itd be much appreciated. I dont wanna go through the kind of character crisis Ive gone through in melee!

Uhh depends on what SF game you're talking about.
In ultra street fighter 4, your options are wide and far. C viper, Seth, Akuma, e.ryu, makoto, Dudley, and ken are some examples.

I'm just going to tell you this. Go through the character crisis, it's better than having someone choose a character for you. I say this because a playstyle you may like in Smash may not translate in other fighters, or maybe they do. Point is, you don't know unless you try, and having someone chooses, or, heavily recommends a character for you, you may find yourself not enjoying the game nearly as much.

Kurri (HOW DO I STAR!?) is right this one. I was planning on posting in here earlier that you might want to try Ken, but he's right. Play the game and goof around with characters until you find one that clicks. You'll know when you've found them.

Not gonna lie, I don't know. I just copy pasted from someone else's name :V

Anyways, you may like Fox/Marth in Melee, but in Street Fighter, you may be a big ass french dude who grapples people all day (Hugo), or maybe you like to cover your body in oil (Hakan), maybe even a Japanese School Girl who has an obsession with a wandering hobo.... You never know

In Melee I like to play C. Falcon, but in USF4 I like to play Abel. Whose angsting and attempts to be dark and serious is hilariously undermined by putting him into a pink bathing suit.

I really should try exploring different characters in general for fighting games, myself. Considering I don't actually play SF much, I don't really have a character there (despite showing Sakura in my sig), but other fighters like Guilty Gear and Blazblue, I just dive for the rushdown character, when I may actually prefer a zoner. I wouldn't know, I've never actually tried.

Also I just realized I have three copies of SFIV. USFIV on my PS4 and PC, and SFIVAE on 360. I really should dive into the series, especially considering I've already pre-ordered SFV

Finding a character on your own is one of my most favorite things in starting a new fighter. Some people look for playstyles, others for looks. If you really want a suggestion, my pick for you would be Rolento. Lots of great movement, good at capitalizing confirms (like his knives), really good pressure, good buttons, etc. I wouldn't say he's a hard character to learn either regarding combos, and you can always watch Nemo's Rolento for help.

If you like Melee, you are going to hate Street Fighter.

It's a slow boring experience with tons of projectile spam and stiff, limited movement.

Pretty much everything wrong with Smash U is wrong with Street Fighter, and the same can be said of the majority of traditional fighters.

@ Quillion Quillion started an entire thread to discuss the fact that he doesn't like traditional fighters. Clearly the genre isn't for him.

Lots of people like Melee and SF, but keep in mind that they are very different games.

Hey, when people keep comparing Smash U to traditional fighters as a "defense" for it, it gets really annoying.

That's why I started that thread; because that isn't a defense, and I do genuinely hate traditionals.

That's fine, but it's not fair to say that someone is going to hate it because they like Melee. Especially since plenty of people are into both.

Don't pick Dan
This man is a heathen and should be burned at the stake. Dan "The Man" Hibiki is the best character.

At this point I'm starting to think he's trying to be some kind of troll.

On the subject of "Who should you main", the others (except maybe Quillion depending on your POV) are right; don't be afraid to branch out and try new kinds of fighters. Though usually when beginning and learning people say you should play Ryu for a bit to learn the mechanics of the game and get used to it, and then move onto whoever catches your interest. In the end though it really boils down to whoever you get comfortable with. Try all the characters and find the guy you like more.

Unless you like Dan Hibiki, then you need no other.

Ok, so basically I already know the mechanics of the game and have been playing it ever so slightly over the course of the past few years, Ive just never owned it long enough to settle down with the game. Im familiar witht he entire cast and the majority of their gimmicks since SF2, I understand I might like something different, but this is my process. I want some kind of recommendations as stepping stones to try the game on a deeper level. If I choose different, fine, but Id like if some people answered my question properly as in the OP. This is the process I went through in TTT2 as well as MK9 from friends who played those games, and it worked in MK, but not in Tekken. Basically I dont care if it works per say, but thats where I want to START
