Hello.
I'm a new guy here. I think I had an account before, but that was a long while ago, before I actually played as much as I do now.
I go by Putt but that name was taken
Anyways, I'm 15 years old, and have been a fan of Smash Brothers for as long as I can remember. I've been playing since 64 but wasn't really a skilled player. Didn't watch tourneys, played with items on, stuff like that.

A few years ago, I found some stream on twitch, some Melee tournament. At the time I didn't know anyone competing but I liked the guy with the weird hair so I rooted for M2K
Then, with my young silliness, I thought, man I wish I could be that good, I'm gonna start practicing Melee.
With none of my friends having played Smash Brothers before and my siblings not being any competition, plus me being a kid and unable to convince parents to let me go to tourneys, I had noone to play with.
All I could do was fight lvl 9 computers, and at the time I thought it took some skill. Because Melee's CPU are so good, right
Anyways, I played Luigi since he was my boi. I could wavedash on command but never really put it to use during fights. That was the end of my road, really. I played Melee whenever I had friends over or whenever my brothers wanted to lose but that was it. Nobody could beat me, but I knew that it was only because everyone I was able to fight sucked. I wasn't good, but I knew that.

For a short period of time, I even picked up Smash 64 competitively. Bought an N64 controller adapter for PC and played a few matches with random people every day on Project64k. Used Mario and Yoshi, but that never really went anywhere. And if I played 64 again I'd probably switch to Kirby

Then Sm4sh came around...
Boy, was I excited. I played Brawl and enjoyed it at the time but never tried to get good competitively with it since I knew it didn't have a future anyways. And Sm4sh was coming out on 3DS, me, not having a Wii U, I was hyped. A new Smash game! And I can actually play it!
I was actually caught up this time, I wouldn't be practicing a game years after it came out.

I got it the day it came out, planned to play it with friends the same day, but online multiplayer didn't work the first few days. So I just played Classic mode with each character to get a feel for the game.
I planned to main Luigi, since I had mained him in Melee and Brawl, but couldn't get a feel for him (Which now I regret not sticking with him). In the end I chose Doctor Mario. I liked Mario and after unlocking Doc and thinking 'he's slower but stronger, that sounds good' I went with him immediately.

After failing to beat my friends with Doc I ended up switching to Yoshi, who is still my secondary today. And I also use Kirby too but wouldn't ever use him in tournament.
Then one day I thought I'd try fighting my friend who I couldn't beat with Doc, and I'd use Mario instead.
Immediately realized how much better he was and loved it. Was able to compete with my friends for once. (obviously these friends were not local friends; nobody at my school or near me that's my age is good at any smash game)
From then on played all the time with Mario. At the time I was probably scrubby, but I'm getting to the part where that changed

I started spending a lot more time playing Smash Brothers, looking around on various websites for more people to fight.
I was lucky enough to find a board on one website that had no topic; people just show up and talk about whatever. So I showed up and talked about Smash. The owner of the board talked to me some about it, and we found out he lives not far from me. We played 3DS some and he destroyed me with his Sheik. I rarely even took a stock off of him. He didn't trash talk, but instead told me what I was doing wrong, and how to improve. He knew I wanted to get better, and I understood that the best way to get better would be to play people better than you; so I did.

He linked me to Anther's Ladder, where I still occasionally play. I go by Putt there.
The ladder was the best place for me to practice. For Glory was an option but for very obvious reasons the ladder was better. I started improving quickly by playing on there, but again it seemed like the end of my road. The ladder is where my game ends, I thought.

Then the friend who showed me the ladder in the first place, he told me there was a weekly tournament at an arcade not far from where I lived, and that he goes to them.
So that helped me get introduced to people, and become part of my local scene, although a small one.
Now I go to 2 weeklies, and my placement is average but improving

A few of my friends have asked me how I ended up going to these tournaments. '____ is a friend from a board on some website'
'Smashboards?'
'No'
'Do you have an account on Smashboards?'
'No'
'Make an account on Smashboards'

So here I am.
A more brief summary of who I am...

My name is Kevin, I'm a Mario main. My interests aside from Smash include Rooster Teeth, NSP, and Halo.
I play on 3DS and plan to get Wii U soon.

Welcome to the boards. I loved the story, especially as a Mario main. You seem good. Maybe I can battle you sometime.
