Story mode: story idea and discussion

I got this idea which I posted in a thread... But I soon started thinking how much I'd like a story like this!

It's basically something in the lines of this:

Character A and B come from the same universe (e.g. Pokémon)
Character B get's taken hostage
Character A wants to save character B
Character B is taken away and character A failed to save his friend

The same happened to character C and D
Character A stumbles upon character C
Then character A and character C go and try to save character B and D together

This could maybe be done in like 4 universes, which could, if done right, end up showcasing already 10 or even more characters in the story mode.
That way the story will be special, and not just all over the place

Tell me what you'd be sure to take in and discuss!
Maybe we can create our own perfect story line this way!

Only after they go to a magic school together and find themselves in rivaling houses.

I'd like a story structure similar to Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, where the characters are sucked from their own homeworlds without existing previously on the Trophy Universe, so they're the actual characters. Of course characters from the same universe/timeline such as DK with Samus could pair up on their stories.

I'd laugh if everyone, all excited, got on Smash 4, then just see "subspace emissary.... 2"

The camera is seen from the perspective of a person roughly 6 feet tall.
The person is in a dark hallway, you can hear the muffled roar of thunder and rain crashing outside. There is a creaking noise as a door at the end of the hall to the left opens slowly. The room behind the door is emitting a faint light. The person approaches the room. The person peers around the corner and you can see what once must've been a childs playroom. The room is illuminated by the moonlight coming from a large window, the sound of the rain pelting it and the thunders boom would drown out any other noise. Lightning covers the screen in a flash of white, but when the light fades you are not in a musty old playroom in the middle of night. The perspective has switched to a young child who is considerably shorter. The playroom is illuminated and nintendo toys are scattered about the floor and a nintendo 64 is set up to a tv against the wall. The white light comes back and the room is back to normal.
The person looks at a desk next to a large toychest. There is a pair of white gloves on the table. The person dons the gloves, bends over the toychest and opens it, the lightning flashes again but this time it kicks into the games opening, nintendo characters going about their adventures and hijinks in their native lands and then being invited to the smash bros tournament via messages, letters, emails, etc.

So basically the story is that the kid from the opening of the original smash bros has grown up but has come back to play with his toys one more time. The toys being the smash bros fighters and him being master and crazy hand. There isnt much of a plot or character interaction involved as its just a fighting tournament. Actually this isnt even much of a story, but it'd be a cool set up for the opening, a sort of reference to the opening in smash bros 64.
