With so many Fighting games these days doing Gem systems maybe Smash could use it. Take the story mode's sticker system from Brawl and make a VS mode out of it. That way we can try out a lot of crazy sticker combinations and as long as it was separate from the main mode I think there's a lot of fun to be had. One change that woudl be needed is so that removing a sticker doesn't expend it to allow for people to change their minds

I, personally, would rather that they invest their time otherwise... Whenever I think about the hundreds of stickers and trophies, I can't help but think about how they could have instead worked on another character.

That being said- if they brought back something like stickers, these are the things I'd want to see changed:
1. I kind of would like it to not be something where you actually stick it to the base... I hate negotiating each pixel to get as much sticker space as possible. Just tell me that a sticker takes up 15% of your available space and switch around based on that.
2. Have a mode where you can actually examine a character's moveset and see which tags apply to it, i.e. See if Zelda's side B counts as fire, explosive, magic, or all three and then compare how much damage is based off of the original attack and how much each sticker is adding to it.
3. As you said, you should be able to remove stickers without wasting them.

In regards to the multiplayer mode, if they have a sticker mode it'd be cool to see that as one of the special versus modes. There'd be things to figure out, of course, like whether each player applies stickers separately and stores those in their name.

I have additions to your ideas qdMbp:

1. For some stickers, you must buy them in the shop. No, not with real money, but with just the coins you've collected in the game. I guess this sounds kind of Soul Caliber 4-ish/5-ish if you want to say. It adds a little more dedication to get the stickers that you want to use (and yes, some will be extremely costly and/or hidden until a certain task have been achieved).
2. Of course to get some stickers, you have to do certain tasks to open them. But let's not do it in the way brawl does it by opening a challenge box, but rather make it so you have to find them. This could include looking through secret areas in story mode, a special secret area added to all-star, or adding a sticker stage to classic mode and having secret stickers come out by achieving a certain time, score, etc.

Seems like these might make the game a little more tedious, but it may create more interesting ideas to come out of it. I would rather the developers to spend their time working on the game itself as well, but this is a very interesting idea and brings something new to the table.

I also wouldn't mind if they actually combined stickers and trophies... So, instead of sticking things to trophies to empower them, you simply unlock the trophies which have "support stats" and you can assign 5 trophies to support your character.

Would you want to limit certain trophies to certain characters or allow any trophy to be equipped to any character? Also, let's say you're allowed to put stickers to the trophies to change the stats. Should the rules of certain stickers on certain trophies apply? Or any stickers on any trophies? Oh goodness that would be pretty insane though.

I'd personally keep it pretty similar to how it is now in terms of who can equip what... Most of the sticker stats don't apply to most of the characters. Something like +explosion damage does nothing for Fire Emblem characters, no need to complicate things by even showing them as options. Also, if it was a matter of collecting trophies with stats to support your characters, it would look better to only have trophies that make sense to support your character. (i.e. it makes sense to see Bowser's minions supporting Bowser but wouldn't make sense to see those trophies supporting, say, Link.)

It would be nice if the power board idea from KI:U came into play with the stickers.

Here is a another proposition: You can use the stickers in the Classic Mode. This will power up your character, but all comes with a price, so when you finish the game, either by winning or losing, you lose the stickers you used.

Crazy I had to go this far back to find a Sticker thread.

I was wondering if the "character customization" Sakurai was talking about could be done with Stickers. He already said he doesn't like the idea of custom costumes (I'll have to find the article where he says that) and custom moves seem very unlikely.

I think we may have already seen some form of customization with Megaman's Megabuster. In his match with Mario, his shots were short ranged but stunned, in the Little Mac Trailer they didn't stun but their range was MUCH longer.

Now, this could all be in game balancing....but what if it's not? What if you could change actual character properties now.... and what if stickers where the way you did that?

Hoping that either stickers allow you to create a custom version of a character (sorta like how Spazzy_D said Mega Man's Mega Buster had hitstun, but later longer range and no hitstun) or just one sticker to put on your character to add small customization that wouldn't affect gameplay.

I was always kinda disappointed when I threw and item capsule and a sticker popped out.

Keep your RPG bull**** out of my fighting game, it was kinda neat in SSE but that's it really.

On stickers themselves, collecting them is a chore. I am literally 1 sticker away from 100%ing the game and no amount of sticker farming is doing it for me.
