This is c+ped from my blog on AiB; I thought it would be nice to get input from Smashboards.

I really like playing Brawl.
I'm a writer and I tend to ramble, but I'll try to keep this from becoming my life story. SSB was my favorite game as a kid, and I always wanted Melee, but didn't get it until a few months before Brawl came out. I was really excited for Brawl, and since the game came out I've been playing with my best friend almost every weekend. It's been nearly three years and Brawl's been one of the only things in my life that hasn't changed. It's always there for me at the end of the week, for me to look forward to, and I've spent countless hours reading Smashboards or watching videos; when the MLGs were going on, I tracked them like they were Superbowls.
The one thing was that Smash has been a private pleasure of mine, because I only have one person to play with. I didn't think there were any tournaments close enough for me to attend until about a month ago, but finding out about them really galvanized me. That was when joining the competitive scene became real to me, and I was really excited; this is a chance for me to meet so many new people, and compete while having fun, and to potentially be considered good at something. Since then I've been really excited. Giddy, even.
My first tourney was last Saturday. It was really small and probably can't even be considered a legit one, but nonetheless it gave me a taste of the real deal and I had fun. I found out how far I still have to go, skillwise, and met people like I hoped to. I definitely want to go to more tournaments, but I also started thinking about how tiny my Smash world is, and how I could try to change that.
Basically, what I want to do is get more people in my town interested in competitive Smash, so hopefully my region can grow a little. If I succeeded, then my high school friends would presumably spread out across the country for college and inject some new blood into other states as well. I have a few ideas about asking certain friends and posting on Facebook and such, but does anyone have any advice for building up a community from the ground? I'd really appreciate any, since I have no clue what I'm doing. Suggestions on how to teach people the basics of the competitive scene would be really nice too. I'm pretty terrible, so I have no idea if I could teach people how to play D=
tl;dr how get people interested in brawl
