How does everyone feel about the blast zones with what they've seen so far? I feel like it may hamper the game a bit. But I'd like to see how everyone feels about them. I hope the Wii U version has stages with smaller blast zones. VGBC seems to be having a lot of issues with many characters due to the zones. Even to the point of hampering character viability.

I think they're good in that they encourage offstage play. KO moves are reliable when it comes to knocking the opponent significantly off the stage but the large zones require you to go offstage and prevent a recovery. The game makes you commit to the kill which I personally think is great. Makes the game feel more exciting.

This is coming from spectatorship. What was VGB saying was wrong?

I'm gonna say no for now. I want the meta to push forward before we start deciding big things like this, really.
Pretty much what you say.
This needs to develop a bit more before we make decisions like this. Give it a few more days or a week until this can be determined in even a slight way.

I actually complained about this to the rep at smashfest, but have since changed my mind. I'm curious to see if, as someone here mentioned once, it actually benefits heavyweights.

I love anything that might encourage risky off-stage spike attempts, so no. :awesome:

At first I was like uhhhh... about 4's reworked blast zones, but now I'm kind of glad that as some of you have already said, you now have to actually work for your KO's this time rather than just do a strong smash attack/special move and then lean back in your chair and take a sip of your drink while taunting your opponent as they suffer a KO. Meteor smash's/some characters down aerial smash attack/strong projectiles should be enough I feel to put your foe down for the count in 4.

It feels like every stage is huge due to blastzones lol. People live forever and the blastzones are huge When you land a hard hit and it doesn't kill it is kinda disappointing and you can't edgeguard that well as well.

I think effective edgeguarding will come when people become more familiar with the timing and more confident with each character. I've seen some great examples of edgeguarding across a few streams that seemed very Melee-esque. :)

Some general speculation, characters with a solid offstage game will be much more successful. This has been kind of obvious for the past 15 years but I think it's the most pronounced here.

Also, off topic note, captain falcon's uproot spikes when he's by the ledge. Mother of God.
