Stage picking guide?

I just wanted to know if there was a guide somewhere about how to decide which stages are good/poor choices for certain characters. I haven't been able to find one just yet, but I haven't been to a tournament nor experienced a striking and counterpicking system, so I'm not qualified to write a guide myself. If it matters for the sake of answering my question, I main Yoshi.

You could probably write up a table with stages and mark them good or bad for various characters, but it's much easier to think about what ways to kill or do damage characters have and which stages have elements that help something like that, especially as not everyone has the same playstyle. For example, Halberd is a good stage for characters that can kill off the top due to its low ceiling blastzone, like Diddy or Rosalina. Meanwhile, a stage like Final Destination is bad for characters like Bowser because it's free reign for projectiles, and he can use platforms to his advantage well because he has a large hurtbox that can go underneath.

There's pretty specific descriptions of stages in the Smash Academy board, and the rest is mostly experience, so go from there. Actually play the stages with the characters and you'll often notice things about them that help or hinder you.

Thanks for the explanation. My biggest problem is that I play on the 3DS version mainly, so it's hard for me to get experience on WiiU stages.

Yea everyone is going to have their own opinions and preferences about stages almost as much as they do for characters. If you're looking for particular information for Yoshi, I would talk to the Yoshi boards.

I simplistic guide to help with stages choices might be good though! I know @ParanoidDrone did a lot of research on stages. Using his guides I'm sure we can make something bare bones but useful. Something like "Choose this stage if you like killing vertically, suggest characters: :4diddy:,:rosalina:, etc..." and "This stage has grass, so good for players who want extra traction on the ground. Suggest characters: :4littlemac:,:4luigi:, etc..."
