SWF has launched its new Stage Browser, the ultimate tool for finding and sharing Brawl custom stages. It's admittedly a bit of a work in progress still, but the most important features are all there:
  • Upload stages (.bin files) directly from your computer to SWF, and start sharing immediately
  • Browse all currently uploaded stages by upload time, name, download count, or rating
  • (Yes, that means you can rate stages too.)
  • Post comments to share your thoughts with the stage creator and other users
Now, a few limitations: you'll have to input information about the stage manually (for now), but in the future we hope to have this entire process automated such that the stage browser will automatically be able to fill in the name, description, etc. for the stage, and even generate a thumbnail automatically. (Until then, you'll have to deal with some generic screenshots based on the stage's background.) Also, you currently can't edit stages once you've uploaded them, so try to make sure everything is right before you submit it. Finally, the stage browser is only available to registered users. This may change in the future to allow guests to browse and download stages, but the only way to rate stages, comment, or upload new stages will be with a SWF account.

Enjoy, and if you have any questions or notice any bugs, please let me know.

Good news, the future has come early! As of now, you should be able to upload stage files and have the system automatically pull out information about the stage, including a thumbnail preview. (It's not terribly large, but it's the best we'll be able to do.) Major props go out to GTCoder, Ondo, Heinermann, and everyone else whose tools made this possible.

EDIT: To update, it's now possible to replace a stage you've already uploaded with a different stage (you'd most likely want to do this when you've updated a stage, rather than replace it with an entirely different stage). Also, guests can now browse stages and download, but they cannot upload stages, rate stages, or post comments.
