I'm making this thread for all the people who don't have the recent smash games(my sister broke my 3ds while I was sleep, I can't play smash 3ds).

Though I'm holding out until I know the basics of competitive Smash, SSF2 is my preferred Smash game, above even 4 and P:M.
So, my MGID is "KarmaPilcrow", same as my NNID.

Only for ONLINE multiplayer. They kind of have to because people want to know who they're playing against.
And as they're a nonprofit fan group which has made their netcode from scratch, they don't have the resources to set up a With Anyone system.
(I'm guessing your gripe with the game is primarily related to the three "Grandfather Clause" characters – Goku/Naruto/Ichigo – who are only still in because they were already programmed before MG begun aiming for a more professional focus in 2011. Existing mains for them had already developed, so they didn't want to alienate a significant chunk of their player base by taking them out.)
