ssb64 on an emulator

Apart from recently buying a copy of Brawl, I'm playing ssb64 ALOT and I have been for a long time. I used to play it on an N64 but lately I've started playing it alot in school on an emulator on my laptop.

Now to get to my accual question: Is there any certain controller, program, emulator or whatever that works like a normal video game controller in that it detects how hard you press a button or how hard you tilt a stick? I'm currently using Project 64 v1.6 and a custom usb controller but due to the fact that it doesn't really detect how hard you press a button/tilt a stick it's near impossible to master the game when you can't Short Hop, and you generally have less control over your character.

Any help is much appreciated. Cheers.

You can get a N64 controller adapter from Ebay or some stores that sell them. As far as pluggins that would help you... I can't say, PJ64's pluggin is the best I think.

Err, I actually use Nrage's plugin if you guys are talking about input plugins. I find that it has much better sensitivity controls than the default PJ64 one. Make sure you calibrate your controller in the control panel before using it on PJ64.

Also, I think Isai uses the adaptoid.

*Edit*
Unfortunately I don't think there's any adaptoids left, there's none on ebay and the main website has them on...preorder.

Yeah I discovered Nrage's plugin earlier today and it does wonders to the stick, really helps. And yeah ofcourse you want to use the c buttons for short hopping, I can do it atm with Nrage but it's still alot harder then it should be to pull off for some reason. You have to press the button extremly light in order to short hop. While comparing to brawl for example where it's extremly easy to short hop, this is a major pain in the ***. Thanks anyway I also think I have to get myself a new controller, this one feels abit... twichy. I'd love to get an adaptoids but they seem to be hard to get your hands on? Especially since I live in Europe.

Thanks for the help.

It's not force, it's time held that matters. These buttons don't have sensitivity.

SSB64 is faster, so time available to shorthop is a bit low. Certain characters are easier to shorthop with than others.

Melee is the hardest to shorthop on.

Depends on with who Superstar, although if the TS's only experience with shorthopping is Brawl then it's little surprise he's having trouble.

I still find it hard to belive that you should have to press it with such precise force in order to short hop
That's because ssb64 has enough depth so that your grandmother won't learn how to play in a week and humiliate you with some pretend advanced tech like jumping forwards while facing backwards. WOWWWWW BRAWL! Wavedashing was a *****, but MAN was that "hugging" technique where I automatcially sweetspot difficult. (sarcasm)

Yeah thanks for treating me like a ****** in those last few posts, I have no problems short hopping while playing the game on an N64 it's just on the emulator so I'm not plain bad there's just something up with the keys/emulator idk.

I didn't see the part where you said you've played this game before, sorry.
Also, I think Dylan hates Brawl. :bee:

You said precise force. A precise force may help you get it fast, but it's not what matters. Use the proper terminology. :D

And overal Wen, I meant overall. :p

I'm sarcastic in general about smash, you're easily offended.

Also, I think Dylan hates Brawl.
Truthfully I don't I only played it once but found it absurdly easy to pick up and beat my old melee crew members whom I had trained with for 2 years in ssbm in montreal. They had spent at least a collective 40-50 hours playing the game before I showed up because my girlfriend *was* pregnant ;) and I was obviously busy working for the future but I digress.

I basically used jigglypuff right away since I was mostly playing ssb64, then marth and finally wolf and with wolf I just spammed lasers and used spacing and won pretty easily after learning his hitboxes

We then played melee and I destroyed them with captain falcon easily, much easier than before, Brawl had weakened their skill.

I had all the while been playing ssb64, so it worked out for me.

Yeah I do agree that ssb64 is alot better then brawl, to be honest when I got brawl I didn't know about pj64k, otherwise I'd probably just have played that. Yeah I know I was both using the wrong terminology and that I'm easily offended, to my defense I can tell you that I didn't think before posting. Either of the times.

Cheers.
