I'm kind of worried about how the Wii U's price will affect the popularity of SSB4. I mean..a Basic Wii U, Controller and $60 game comes up to $360 + Tax. That price feels kinda hefty to me (even more-so if you're getting a Wii U to play smash alone).

Are there any reassuring facts out there? How much was the Wii when Brawl came out? Is $360 even a high price or am I just a cheapo?

I think we can assume that a Wii U + Smash bundle is coming... that may discount the price..

To answer your question: No, I think people will buy the Wii U just for Smash Bros... I mean, they're already dropping big money for Xbones and PS4s.

Ha ha, a good buddy of mine bought both and already returned the XBone because it had nothing worth having. He kept his PS4, though. It's no understatement that Nintendo has kind of a branding problem in America with the adult casual crowd. The Wii did a lot of damage in that regard.

Sorry for being completely off-topic :(

This is one of the reasons I figure the 3DS version will be more popular then people give it credit for...

Still, some people will buy it just for Smash.

I bought my Wii U for two games: Smash and Monster Hunter. People definitely do that.

I want to get Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, though...

Reassuring facts? Super Mario 3D World, DKC Tropical Freeze, Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8, Zelda U, Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD, Tons of Indie games, awesome tablet controller...

The price of the wii when brawl was released was $250. Add the price of a brawl disc and it was $300.

They don't sell Basic Wii U's anymore, but you can buy a deluxe wii u that comes with a game for $300. They'll probably make a wii u that comes with smash bros for 300.
It will probably come with a controller as well.

So the price hasn't changed surprsingly.

Dude, I want to play Monster Hunter with you! Would you be down?

The answer to your question OP is that hopefully people will be playing more than just Smash to make the system worth it.

Going back in to my past playing 2nd quest WWHD, playing NSMB & SM3DW with my wife daily little by little, or Monster Hunter awesome-ness...I've already got my money's worth 2x over.

I almost pity those who only are planning to get it for Smash, there is plenty worth playing currently.

People were willing to shove out $300-$400 for a television player, why wouldn't they actually buy a console for a video game?

Honestly, knowing how big Smash is, most will.
I might, but for right now I'll stick with the 3DS version.

Reassuring facts? Nah. That is exactly why I was so utterly disappointed that the 3DS version was launching first, that is precisely why I was disturbed by the notion that the games would have the same roster. It retails at $40 dollars and most people already own a 3DS, that means that they will only need to drop $40 dollars for Smash to play it months earlier.

The Wii U; however, will struggle. Sure, some people would buy the console only for Smash. But will they buy it after they have already played the game for months? Maybe not so much. The Wii U exclusive content will be the only thing to entice buyers, so let us hope it is good.

There is one reassuring fact: Smash 4 is on the 3DS. Everyone will buy that version.

I don't have my Wii U hooked up, currently, but I could get it set up some day soon. Right now, I don't have a TV of my own except for a massive old set that I inherited from my great grandmother. It still works like a charm, and is a real testament to quality manufacturing, but it also weighs something like 80+ lbs. and is big and bulky... and it's not HD. It's at my parent's house, currently. I don't really have the money to go out and get a new TV right now.

But, there is always the awkward possibility that I could go hang out at my parent's house and play MonHun with you! My cousin, who stays with my parents, just went out of town for 2 weeks, so maybe I could hook up to his HD TV. I loved 3U. I mostly use bows & arrows, but I'm decent with hammers, lances, and greatswords.

PM me sometime and I'll see about setting up a "MonHun date" with you, lol.

I am hoping Nintendo sees the advantage of a WiiU price drop for the upcoming holiday. Nothing too drastic, but enough to entice those sitting on the fence.

Plus, while I know there are people there who will buy a Nintendo console just to play Smash, I think most people who like and play Smash also have an affinity for some of the other Nintendo staple franchises that will be coming in the future and will see picking up a WiiU during the holiday an investment toward more games at a later date.

1) Sell Wii on Craigslist (I got $100 for mine)
2) Find WiiU on Craigslist (Found one for $175 with tablet, console, cables, and Mario Bros U)
3) Smile at your savings.

Plenty of folks picked up an Xbone for Killer Instinct (i don't blame them).

That is, no insult to KI, a chump compared to Smash Bros.

Rare fans were probably salivating over the thought of the Xbox actually having a creative, non-pewpewpew grittybrown men with guns game...but let's face it, Killer Instinct's no Banjo & Kazooie or Conker...and we all know Microsoft hates creativity and charm too much to let Xbox One versions of those games exist.
