As a PM primary player, Smash 4 has had me absolutely captivated for the past few weeks of watching matches, and with the US demo dropping, my group and I have had our hands absolutely full with the small package that's been produced for demo. I thought I should start a general thread for tech here, since I didn't see one on the first page of threads for this forum. Anyhow, here are a couple of things I've picked up and used pretty effectively. I'm sure some of you have heard of and used these, but for those who haven't, I hope it can help.

1) Modified 'dash-dance': I compare this to the 'true dash dance' that Sheik performs in Melee/PM, the type of dash-dancing that Ken recommends players to do, and the timing of the 'dash dance' from back in 64. To perform, all you have to do is tap the stick in one direction, release it, and tap it in the other, in a sort of delay. Testing it in the demo, I've found that only characters with fast Initial Dash animations can perform this, with Pikachu and Mario getting much use, and Link/Megaman not being able to perform it effectively. Villager falls into an odd middle ground. There is a certain cantor to the timing on it.

The main utility of this trick that I've found anyway is to allow the character to perform their dash attack while changing directions, a sort of mixup to the roll movements from up close. I'm sure there will be at least a couple uses for it. This tech isn't a true Dash Dance, but I don't have any other real name to call it.

2) Dashing D-Tilt: Performed in a similar manner to the 'modified dash dance', you are able to do a dashing d-Tilt by tapping the stick in a direction, releasing it to neutral, and inputting a crouch then the attack. If you input the attack too early, you'll do your dash attack, if you see a crouch come out before the attack, then you could've done it faster. There's a 'magic' timing between the two that allows you to sweep opponents while moving in on them. I'm sure it'll be handy in one way or another.

In a similar fashion to the 'dash dance' of Smash 4, only certain characters with faster initial dash animations are able to perform this. If you want to feel it for yourself, try it out with Mario, then Link. They're the most extreme differences that I can think of.

Anyhow, those are the couple of things that I was playing around with earlier today, and I thought it would be a good idea to get some discussion going. Let's bring ourselves together here, brainstorm, and take one another to the top of our ladders with some tech knowledge in this new game.
