Smash 3DS SSB3DS Final Thoughts Thread

Well as everyone here is blatantly aware, the day that Super Smash Bros for 3DS is released in Japan is drawing closer and closer by the minute! Soon, we'll have all the information regarding the roster, stages, and other details we could possibly want or get. If there's any final thoughts, ideas, hopes, dreams, disappointments, rumors, leaks, *gasp for air* or desires you still have for the game before we know everything, post it here!

I suppose until it's completely debunked I'll hold out a little hope in my heart for Lucas. I knew right away I would want to main him and I played great games with him. Thankfully Robin looks amazing and I'll be happy with him as main but I would love to see Lucas make a return.

Frankly I'm disappointed that apparently Pac-Man is super slow and has a fall speed like those seen in Brawl. Was really hoping to have him be my second main. It also seemed like his side b where he throws out the power pellets and follows the trail can't be timed like Greninja's shadow sneak, which is probably the only other reason I wouldn't have Pac-Man as my primary main.

I hope he surprises you! I've been hearing both good and bad things about Zelda. She's my secondary main and I hope she is at least decent in the new game. I listened to Zipzo's Q&A twitch stream and he said Pac-Man is more quirky than anything. The way he was talking made it sound like he has a lot of potential if you can get used to his weird moves.

And Isaac.
And Black Shadow.

But most of all, I desire a copy of the game in my hands (or rather, perpetually in my 3DS).

I'm just glad that this game is going to be amazing to millions of people, whether or not it has wave dashing.

The amount of content packed in the 3DS version is incredible! and even though so many of the stages are re-releases, I'm surprised that there are so many in the game in the first place.

overall, I'm super hyped for this game, and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

My main final hopes are that Zelda (main along with Ness) is significantly improved; and I'm actually feeling pretty good about that one!

The other thing I'm holding out hope for is Chorus Kids/any rhythm heaven rep being an unlockable we haven't seen even with the leak. That would make my entire life!

The internet works INCREDIBLY fast when it comes to something monumental like Smash. Factoring in the time it'll take someone to completely 100% the game and then translate all the findings from Japanese to English, I'd say we'll have all the information in like 2-3 days max. Fingers crossed, eh?

Hoping mainly that Ice Climbers get back in. Wasn't a fan of the other three unconfirmed Brawl characters, so I don't care as much about them.

I hope the "remaining unlockables" are exciting characters.
I hope there's a function similar to My Music, but not exactly My Music.

I miss Lucas since hes my main but I can't wait to have Ness back.

Hoping that pink stage is a Mother related stage, even though only one of the games has been on handhelds.

If the leak isn't final, then I hope theres a REALLY left field character that NO ONE could have predicted. That or just all the characters are balanced enough to not be put into the "Never Used Tier".

I'm satisfied with the roster except Pac-man but I can't wait to try him as well.

I will be severely disappointed if neither Geno nor the Masked Man make it in.

Also, the lack of momentum-preservation when leaving the ground worries me.

Otherwise, I'm glad to hear it's inbetween Brawl & Melee speed-wise.

I actually saw in a Relax Alax video that the Villager went into a side move but seemingly cancelled and back rolled out of it. Additionally, Toon Link was rolling for DAYS. Looking like along with the nerf of ledge snap, we're seeing that L-cancelling or some kind of roll cancel as well as a kind of roll dancing mechanic are both being added into Sm4sh. Maybe thats why they made a point of showing that DK now has a roll move?

Yeah unfortunately it's looking a lot like we've reached the end of third party reps, but honestly we've got the best and most iconic third party characters any fighting game could even HOPE to have. I mean just look how much better Pac-Man and Mega Man are in Sm4sh than they are in Tekken x Street Fighter. Taking into account all the classic icons we're sporting this time around, if we get another Konami rep it'd be Simon Belmont. That whip would make for a really unique and fun fighting style IMHO.

I only want Ridley and more stages. For the love of what is sacred, I hope the leaked stage select screen isn't complete. I am satisfied with everything else so far I mean, sure, I would love an Advance Wars rep, but it is totally not happening.

I think it would be cool for Dr. Mario to have a final Smash compared to ZSS or Snake, where he teleports off the screen, the controls a bunch of falling viruses (or pills...it's been a while) to crush opponents.

I'm very satisfied with how the game is turning out, since most of my favorite characters are newcomers/returning, but I'm still hoping for Lucas. Ness is great and all, but Mother 3 is a game I adore.

I never cared for Ridley's inclusion, but more recently I've started wanting him in if only because how much support others have for him. I guess the game's at a stage where the only way to make it better for me is to make it better for others, happy fanbase = better online, heh heh.

The 3DS version was a detriment to the Wii U version of the game and advocating for a bandwagon appeal fallacy does not materially alter that notion. There are limitations that influenced my poor HD version. Therefore I am disappointed. Deal with it!

I'll post what I just posted in another thread about 3DS tournament viability.

IMHO, I don't see the 3DS version having a big tournament scene. That being said, I feel it has much more of a capacity for online tourneys started through Reddit/Smashboards/MIOM/NeoGAF/4chan/etc etc etc. which would certainly be fun in it's own right. Perks of such tourneys being that they could be played whenever, by larger groups of people, and fairly reliably. Just organize it through Challonge and you're good to go.

As you can see, I've got really high hopes for being able to just jump into a tournament hosted (possibly) daily and just bracketed through challonge. I've got little reason to believe that 1v1's online would be laggy considering Namco is behind this game, as well as the 3DS online to be generally pretty well off.

A few of my most wanted didn't make it, or probably don't stand a chance. The fact that some of these newcomers... just barely hit the scene, or are from a game I have had no exposure to whatsoever... it's making me feel like I'm not in the "in" crowd anymore.

Sure MegaMan and Little Mac are probably the hypest inclusions, and they're two of my most wanted. But Greninja, Shulk, Robin, Lucina, Rosalina, Wii Fit Trainer, Palutena, Dark Pit... all of these characters came about as I really just started losing interest in playing these games.

Being that I'm way hyped for this game, it's strange to see most of the newcomers be characters I don't know or give a damn about. Whereas Midna, Isaac, Ridley, Toad. I thought they were shoe-ins for the last game. Did they fade out? I guess I'm not surprised.

The hype to me can hardly be contained. I've purposefully bought a Japanese 3ds strictly for this game (I did the same with the Wii too, I wanted Brawl badly!). I'm majorly hyped for all the newcomers, love everything mentioned in the leaks, yet still hoping for one last surprise character and a few more interesting stages. Otherwise I'm hoping either Shulk or Mega Man can become my new main, and I look forward to customizing move sets for all characters. I really hope Amiibo will be worth it too, since I preordered 4 figure already.

Well, I can't give final impressions really. All I've played was the best buy demo, but I was still extremely impressed. I don't think at my skill level I'm qualified to say whether or not the game would have the lasting power of melee and yet I don't think there's a chance that it won't trump brawl. The game feels great.

Obviously the cuts are disappointing, it's sad to see any character leave the smash roster. The newcomers however more than make up for it, plenty of surprises, very unique playstyles, though the lack of fan favorites is a little disheartening. Overall I'd struggle if you asked me to say bad things about the game.

My only genuine hope that isn't already disproved or grasping at straws is this:

I hope to all that is holy that the "clones" have somewhat significant changes or playstyles. I fully realize why clones are made and how the development process is aided by allowing them into the roster, but still. Dark Pit. Dark. ****ing. Pit. I don't think I could've dreamed of a less necessary, less stimulating, more aggravating character inclusion if I'd tried.


...and on that note, I'd like to state that my other hope is that the Dark Pit part of the leak was a fake and that we're actually getting someone else. Anyone else. Chorus Men. Pink Gold Peach. Ridley's left foot. Dark Duck Hunt Dog. Anyone. Hell, maybe his spot on the roster is actually just a black square being reserved for a character Sakurai hasn't thought of yet but will obviously be superior to Dark Pit when he comes up with it.

Screw you guys. A man can hope!
