Is it worth incorporating spot dodge shine into my gameplay? I know spot dodging too much is bad, and I currently don't do it, but this technique seems pretty useful.

It's a god like technique I use it all the time. If you bait a grab then you can spotdodge shine punish . Just don't be too predictable with it.

Cool, it's nice to see someone else who employs it. The tech seems especially good against Marth imo.

Is a good basic technique, but if you use it too much people will start spacing around it and punish or just bait (wait your spotdodge) and punish.

Should I ALWAYS be buffering the spotdodge with cstick?
Use common sense. If they start pausing before the grab expecting the spot dodge, then obviously don't do it. Adapt. There's never an optimal choice on paper, it's based on how the game as developed and how much you and your opponent mix it up.

Good point. I just felt that way because a Marth I always play that's equal skill to me is pretty aggro and generally goes in for grabs, so the buffered version was pretty logical most of the time.

That applies to every technique and move in melee :estatic:
lol, kind of, but things like double shine or shine grab aren't exactly basic, shine grab is pretty much unavoidable if done perfectly.
