Thinking about it, only Mario Spin-offs get any attention in Smash Bros. I'm not talking Yoshi or Wario, I'm talking about Mario Kart, Mario Tennis and the like. In Brawl there was almost no reference to any of the many Pokemon spin-offs from Mystery Dungeon to Ranger or even Colosseum. Stadium only gets a mention because it's a convenient stage theme. And then there's that there Kirbeh. Air Ride got it's share but nothing to anything else.

I wonder if the spin-off will be better shown off in 4.

The Mario spinoffs alone are a really huge branch and expansion of the Mario franchise. Mario Kart, Mario Party, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, the various Mario RPG games...each one of those series spans several different installments and are hugely popular and successful. It's no surprise that they would get a little bit of representation here and there, with a stage and some trophies.

I'm not too knowledgeable on Pokemon, but the Kirby series, while it does have its fair share of spinoffs (block ball, canvas curse, epic yarn), they're not nearly as large, prominent or well known as the Mario spinoffs. I'm not too surprised that they don't get the same amount of representation. They did get some, however; Kirby Air Ride had the Dragoon as an item (which was quite a treat) as well as some stickers and music. Canvas Curse also got a few stickers.

I'm guessing that there will be a few nods to Epic Yarn here and there in SSB4, since they usually base their content on previous gen games. Perhaps Prince Fluff as a trophy or something.

Only spin-off characters I could see perhaps working as playable characters would be Tingle repping his own series and Todd Snap.

Which reminds me, why haven't we heard anything about Yoshi yarn?

That game looked great from what little we saw

The Mario RPG games have become far too significant to ignore, they're the biggest thing in the Mario series besides the 'Super Mario' games and possibly the only other Mario games that can stand up to them in terms of quality. Paper Mario would represent those games quite nicely.

We'll probably never seen any Pokémon Mystery Dungeon content because Chunsoft holds the rights to the Mystery Dungeon series. Sad, really.

But I do agree with those who wish to see more spin-off representation. It doesn't have to come in the form of characters or stages. I'd love to see some music from Pokémon Snap or Pokémon Colosseum, or trophies representing elements of games like Kirby Canvas Curse. Time will tell if Sakurai will finally make it happen.

It completely depends on what you'd call a spin-off. To me, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Kirby Mass Attack & Kirby: Canvas Curse are normal Kirby games, and Super Luigi U is a game in the "Super Mario Bros." series. Spin-offs are Tingle, Waluigi and Todd Snap. If it's an overworld adventure where you fight, train and collect Pokemon, it's a Pokemon game, even if there are a few changes in gameplay. If you are Kirby in a platformer and can use different abilities, it's a Kirby game. If you jump, collect power-ups and stomp on things, it's a Mario game.

Luigi's Mansion is a spin-off. One which needs more attention in Smash Bros.

Star Fox Adventures is another spinoff game to include.

She wasn't a spin-off, but giving her a different symbol like DK or Yoshi may take some of the TO MANY STAIR FAX complaints.

Star Fox Adventures is definitely a spinoff game.

Well Krystal and Dinosaur Planet returned in the next game so at least it was a spin-off that was canon.

At times though it seems the whole Star Fox series is stuck between fur fans who like Krystal, people who hate her for ruining their Fox/Falco pairing and us people who just want a 64 successor stuck in the middle.
