1. Grabs, shield grabs, pivot grabs, chain grabs
2. single forward b to interrupt their combos
3. really fly dash dancing / movement to bait out moves and punish
4. if you know they are going to attack you, counter. Ken vs pc chris
5. ledge games; you don't have to come back right away

Those are a few things to try, I'm sure other marths here know more

The well-placed counters are a brilliant idea. A lot of people find themselves getting comfortable with one set-up, so if you start to notice them setting you up the same way over and over again, place a counter in the middle and reset to neutral, then grab and punish.

Good movement can really set the pace of the match. Marth, in my mind, is all about fluid movements with dash dancing and wave dashing. You can't throw out mindless aerials because, at least for me with Fox, they're easily punishable.

So if you want slow down a match I would suggest movement practice or camping the ledge (i.e. M2K). I think Marth excels when he doesn't approach and can bait his opponent. My east coast mindset is all about not approaching if you don't have to lol. But if you have to/want to approach, you have to do so as safely as possible.

To speed up the match, once you get a grab or get in on your opponent, don't drop the combos. Marth's shield pressure is basically spaced fairs and dtilts. Running dtilt -> grab is really good. Tech chases also speed up the match/give you momentum
