Smash 3DS Special Smash?

Is there a special mode like in Melee and Brawl where you can play metal matches, giant matches, etc.?

Unfortunately, no. Every "special rule" is "locked" to Smash Run. The modes kind of exist but you can't play then whenever you want, but they do show up in smash run.
