Very few people talk about this subject in video games but sound effects are very important. They can make the simple action of hopping on a Goomba sound delightful with that "woobup" sound they make.
Anyway in Smash Bros sound is very important too. From a simple slap to a big explosion. However I felt Brawl was severely lacking in the SFX department. They lacked the OOMPH that makes a blow to the face sound really painful. Attacks sounded more muffled and softer than before.
On top of this the audience watching you fight was far more quiet in Brawl. In the first game and Melee, the people would cheer and gasp all the time at the action. It made the battle more epic hear the people scream in delight as you blast your foe into oblivion.
Finally, the characters themselves were far less vocal than they used to be. You'd hear Mario "yahoo" and "yipee" a lot more in older titles. Why did everyone become more quiet?
So that makes me wonder about this game. So far from the footage I've seen it seems the sound effects are pretty much the same. I hope that's only because it was early footage.
What do you guys think? I want to hear some WHAM and BAM in my action! I want the audience to gasp and clap at my antics. I want to hear my character grunt and wail in pain!
