Maka's mom is never shown or explained where she is, other than she travels and the only post card was given when maka was at a point of self doubt. We only hear that maka's mom and papa were divorced because he cheated on her. And it's incredibly surprising that was talented as she was as a weapon user she was never called into battle that we know about.
Her dad is always sad he can't help maka other than with money and drinks a lot at strip clubs.
I believe maka's mom died from the dangerous line of work and maka's papa is covering up her death writing post cards.
The only holes i see would be at one point he talks about small divorce details at the bar, could countuie the chain of lies but it's hard to believe no one knows where she is, is going, what she is doing, and that she has been gone over a year.
