So, I've been here for a while now but I never made a thread here! I've been following the scene for a verrrry long time. I've lurked on Smashboards for quite some time, too. Since Melee Bowser was on the front page.

I love Smash Brothers. It is and always will be a big part of my life. By pure random and awesome chance, I was blest with glory of my first console being the N64. I was quite young at the time playing this and I'm very lucky my parents ran with the Nintendo route. Smash Bros. 64 was one of my first games ever. I didn't know anything really. Just Smash attack that, Smash attack this. Looking back at it in the present, I really wish my Mom didn't give away my N64 when the Gamecube came out.

At the time when Melee came out, it was THE game. All my friends had it. Every party, every hang out, every type of gathering HAD a GAMECUBE and MELEE in the house. For many years, we've played Melee and got better and better every time. At least in a casual sense. We always went FD 4 stock, though we often times did free-for-all along with 1v1's. For years we've played and I was one of the worser ones at the game. Marth seemed to be top tier at the time, since the best player at that point used him. Fox and Falco were never used. Years later though, the game started to die down just a little. But from there I learned about this place. Smashboards! I found TheWaffle77, HomeMadeWaffles channel. Shout outs to Brandon and Phil. Without them, my Smash following would've died a long time ago. I found the infamous Wombo Combo. Learned about Zhu, Silent Spectre, Mango, PPMD, Mew2King, Armada, HungryBox, HugS, all of them. It all eventually led to me finding the almighty sacred Advanced How to play Melee tutorial on Youtube which to my knowledge, is still the only relevant tech skill video ever. With the knowledge I learned, I immediately started utilizing these techs in my game. Of course, everyone who learns these techs start out even worse then how they were previously, but with time, and a lot of time actually, I began to dominate all my friends from always losing, to 3-4 stocking them often. I was known as the god of Melee, at least where we live. However it is true what they say, once you get so much better than your friends, they become more reluctant and maybe of them flaked off the Melee train. Only the ones with the intention to get better stuck with me. But even with that, Brawl soon became unvieled to the world.

I like Brawl, not more than Melee, but I do really like Brawl. It brought back the hype that Melee once had and quickly became the new game to play for a couple of years. Everyone knew the game was slower, but it was still fun. Some of my friends already found out about Dedede's chain grab first day and he became champ for a time. I was sorta a **** back then playing Brawl and I usually just go random. Using general smarts like spacing and patience(which ironically is much more emphasized in Brawl than Melee) I was able to contend with the better players using Jigglypuff and bad characters like her. And to be honest, our worst players are the types that fly up with Kirby and rock all day or spam Pikachu Thunders. But quicker than I would've wanted, Brawl died as well. Soon, I was the only one in my circle of friends who continhed to follow Smash. Everyone else moved on to other games, predominantly online games. But, later in high school, I found something great. Our after school program owned both a Gamecube AND a Wii AND a copy of BOTH SMASH GAMES. And the icing on the cake. There were people who I sooned called my new friends, who were GOOD and I mean GOOD at Melee. They knew how to wavedash, they utilized Dash Dancing, they new how to read you, they were good. For a long time, I hung out with an assortment of different ethnicities and races who played Melee at an advanced level. High School does end though. And I was unlucky enough to be 1 year lower than all of them..

At this point, no ones else played Smash. I was at a dry run for a very long time not playing any Smash bros. at all. I have however, kept up with the competitive scene watching videos on Youtube and such. Yeay after year, I continued to watch content from the likes of TheWaffle77, ClashTournaments, VGBootCamp, etc. I'd like to thank them for everything they've done. I've watched the rise and fall of Mew2King, the rise and fall of Mango, the rise and fall of Armada, the rise and fall of Hungrybox, and for now, only the rise of PPMD. here in the future, I'm glad I kept up.

In the year 2014, I finally went out to my first tournament, Pat's House 2. It was quite something watching the matches in person. Meeting all the players. It's such a mind blowing experience. For many, many years, I've watched these people online, only visibly seeing them on my screen. Now that I've met them in real life, I feel like I've accomplished a long awaited goal I never thought I had. I met HungryBox, Lucky, WestBallz, Fly Amanita, Mew2King, Axe, PewPewU, Shroomed, and Sfat. These people were all here to play some Melee. I was happy to be there on that day. I got out of my first pool ever in a tournament and moved into the second pool. However, the story of my tournament ended since I had Lucky, HungryBox, Sfat, and a couple other good players in my pool. I actually got 2-0 by every single person there. If anyone remembers me, I was wearing a red and black Batman hat.

In this day, I'm glad to be a member of the Smash community. I'm proud of what we have all become and all the impossible trials we made it through. We came back in Evo. We have our documentary. We sparked interest to the entire world. We are an internet sensation. We are being accepted as a real fighting game. All these things are the foundation of our perserverence to this game. From this point on in college, I've found new people to play with. I've been traveling a lot more just to play some good ole' Smash.

Smash Brothers 4 is just around the corner and I'm telling you I can't wait!

Bueno.

I feel old reading this, even though we are probably similar in age. 64 was the third console I was playing. Yeah, I was only 6 when the thing came out, but still.

Well done plugging through to high level mechanics! I had to ask what wavedashing was on TL...

All is not so bad though, I have zero intent of becoming any good since I know I haven't near the time. Or the reflexes frankly.

First time I tried out Melee I was so used to 64 it pissed me off and I said it made me sick. So I went back to 64.

Brawl came out, I played it with my younger siblings, but otherwise didnt think much until a buddy + project M brought smash back to life for me.
