Sonic's part in brawls Story mode

Did anyone notice that sonic in his original announcement trailer we saw him fighting subspace villain's with Mario and by himself? I posted the link below but maybe he did have a larger role and for some reason it got cut from the game. If you look from about :38 to :42 its Sonic in a level from subspace. But it does not appear in the final game. Sonic is really getting the short end of the stick these days.

Sonic shows up out of nowhere at the very end. Which isn't surprising to me since he obviously was thrown in near the end of developement (which I think was the reason for the first delay)

after you finish the game you can play with any character on any level.

It was obvious that Sonic was not intended to be in.
