Sonic can run backwards?

In the video on smash bros dojo with the test battle, if you look at the american site video at the end when the announcer says five you see sonic run backwards across the sage. Does this mean that others can do this too?

I think I see what you mean, but I'm fairly sure he turned around quickly as he ran after the spin.
