WHY?
Alright so Sega just announced Sonic Boom Fire & Ice, a 3DS title.
FOR ALL THAT IS HOLY WHY?
Please, watch the trailer here and tell me what you think about this.
Is there hope for this game?
Will they do right by Sonic?
Because this was COMPLETELY out of left field.
And I am 90% certain that this has no chance at being decent.

I liked Shattered Crystals well enough so if this improves what held SC back (Level length , forced exploration , blueprint roadblocks etc) it'll probably be a good game

As long as it's more like Shattered Crystal and less Rise of Lyric, we're on the right track. I would love some improvements from Shattered Crystals like the removal of forced exploration for blueprints to progress through the game. But overall, looking good. Not sure if it's gonna sell well considering that the Sonic Boom games didn't sell well at all.

I haven't played any of the Sonic Boom games (and I don't want to try Rise of Lyric). Same devs as Shattered Crystal though, so that's certainly a good sign.

Yeah I agree with that, Big Red Button certainly did worse.

The only way I could see it selling well is if the bad publicity of the series causes people to buy it out of curiosity.
I wasn't too partial to Shattered Crystal but I do some of the ideas implemented weren't so bad.
That being said I hope that this game is good without a shadow of a doubt I'm just worried because another flop could REALLY hurt the franchise.
Or maybe it'll slap some sense into Sega Idk.

Sonic Boom the show itself is at least doing well. It's all a giant advertisement anyway for the Sonic Boom stuff, so I think they're cool with letting this continue for a bit. It's got me wondering when we'll see something from Team Sonic though. We've had Lost World, but that was handled by the Colors team iirc. Hopefully we'll see the other team show something by next year.

Oh yeah I forgot about the show! I don't watch TV anymore but when I watched some of the episodes they were really good and I remember it being fairly popular. I can see them riding that out for a while.
I hope Sonic Team will focus more on the core aspects of the franchise, it's fine to spin off but at this point it would be much safer to stick to the formula.

People are just salty because it says "Sonic Boom" in the title. IIRC, the 3DS Sonic Boom was actually decent, so there's no real reason to expect this to be bad or anything.

But you know, "LULZ SANIC SUX" will never die, so if people can cling onto something they will.

I'm surprised that they want to go back to the Boom universe after Rise of Lyric, but if there was going to be a squeal, I'm glad it's Shattered Crystal. It wasn't even that bad of a game, just tedious. I'm happy they're going back and fixing the formula instead of letting it die like most people want it to.

Well I partially agree with Shattered Crystal being decent you can't really say the game wasn't flawed, it's not totally obscene to worry about another.
I'll admit me saying that there's a 90% chance of it being bad was overboard though.
As long as Sanzaru Games advanced on Shattered Crystal it should be fine but there's no telling what could happen.

I got a bit upset at 1:26 in the trailer when they pointed to the enemy's hand. That's an unfortunate sign of babying the player through the experience. Altogether, it looks like a combo of a Sonic Advance game (multiple playable characters and classic-ish Sonic stage design) and Kirby (with the different forms and the large, change-state blocks), and that isn't a bad thing if they pull it off right. I'm a bit disappointed with the Boost meter from the Rush games not coming back, but development isn't over yet and it still looks pretty interesting.
