This may or may not be new.
We all know that pressing down to pass through a platform will cause characters to enter a short animation, but that this animation can be cancelled at any time with a move. This has been useful with moves like Snake's Bair, which allows him to use it almost immediately, without leaving the ground. This also works with other characters with "forced" Dairs, like ZSS, G&W, Sonic, in which they pass through the platform but use their dair right away, 'causing them to hit the platform with it, damaging the opponent, but reducing startup and cooldown on the move.
Well, I was just messing around on BF and I noticed that if you used Snake's Uair (C-Stick it) as soon as you pass through the platform, not only does it (as usual) interupt the short passing animation, but it caused him to Fast Fall right away if you continue to hold down. Normally you would have to double-tap the stick to fast fall if you didn't use the move.
I figured out that this works with any move, so long as you continue to hold down when you pass through the platform, you will fast fall when you execute the move.
In fact, this does not have to occur when passing through a platform (now that I've tested it more), and in fact if you are holding down at any time in the air while performing a move, you will automatically begin to fastfall.
However, it still seems to be most useful on a platform, as you cannot fastfall until after the peak of your jump, as usual...
This is useful in the following ways:
- You can quickly use an Uair move on an opponent below you, should the opportunity present itself.
- You hit the ground quickly, meaning the move will cooldown faster.
- Particularly in Snake's case, his Uair hitbox is so long that you can still hit an opponent on the platform you were standing on, even fastfalling the move!
- Can aid in intercepting off-stage if the opponent is below you.
So that is quite nice. I don't really have a name for this, if it even needs or deserves one, but it would appear to be a sort of "Auto-Fastfall".
And don't be a **** if you're tempted, I'm just trying to be helpful. If I wasn't totally clear in some parts of my post... I will make edits. Thanks!
