Is wireless and local play possible between two different region versions?

This is so massively important as a player in Japan with so many international Smash rivals. I might freak out if I am FORCED to buy an entire U.S. setup + game just to play with my friends in America or anywhere else.

This question also refers to "with friends" online play! Same thing!

I don't personally have it, but from what I've heard wireless/local is not region locked.

I could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure I heard it isn't.

I have the same concern as you @Zipzo , I tried the demo with the Japanese demo, it works, but it is still a mystery to the final versions, but the possiblity is high.

It would've been really dumb for them to not allow cross-region local play but still it's a huge relief to hear that you can.

A picture of the demo doing local play cross region doesn't prove that you can do "with friends" cross region online.

You can play with anyone it seems chillindude playing with a dude with a usa 3ds and he has a Japanese one.

I was just able to play in "with friends" with Walfan who has the PAL (European) version! Seems that puts this case to rest!

I've often wondered about this. I know a Japanese 3DS uses the Japanese eShop when using it abroad, so... hard to say.
