I have searched each guide and probably half the threads on the Marth thread.

I still have some questions...

---What is the best way to ensure short-hopping?

---How do you do an Aerial attack off of an edge?

---Is DIing solely control-stick or a combo of the c-stick and control stick?

---Is it ever "just" to use the 3rd Down B Combo for a spike?

---Is the Y button a taboo button to use to jump?

1. Speed ensures short hopping. I tend to just press x really fast. Others prefer flicking it. Overall, it doesn't matter how lightly/hard you hit it. You just need to hit the button and let go fast.

2. From an edgehog you can just hit away from the stage to let go then use c-stick, a, or z to aerial. You can also hit away then double jump before aerialing. I tend to use c-stick here. You can also just dash off the edge if your standing on it. If your wavedashing off to aerial you need to either A. hit the aerial attack before you would grab the edge, or B. hold down to avoid grabbing the edge after the wavedash. B. is risky as you could fast fall.

3. Most DI is used via control-stick. you can ASDI with the c-stick when you are in stun lag or your about to get hit. I tend to use both on charge shots and grabs, but mostly control-stick when I have control over the character (i.e. if you hit the c-stick in this position you would attack or roll if you were in a shield).

4. Use whatever you can. No John's. If whoever plays you can't beat you when you just F-smash they need to get better not complain.

5. While i personally use X, alot of players use Y since it is closer to B. I tend to have problems using Y because when I shorthop with it I always hit A too fast and don't get aerials out. So I never made the change. So no it's not taboo, if you can use it and you like it, go for it.

SHFFL helps. Flick your jump button.

---How do you do an Aerial attack off of an edge?
DI out and tilt? Or drop, not FF, drop slow, slash. The slash give him a bit of a hover.

---Is DIing solely control-stick or a combo of the c-stick and control stick?
Marth usually is best with control stick, yet sometimes, when wavedashing, slashing the opposite way sometime helps, but it purely situational.

---Is it ever "just" to use the 3rd Down B Combo for a spike?
Nah. Almost always, but I've seen few people (including myself) use it to bounce the opponent. Situation though, again. Marth gets out of the 3rd slash quicker.

---Is the Y button a taboo button to use to jump?
No. Use whatever you want, it's a pref.

These questions are all answered in threads throughout the boards, but...

1. To short hop, press the X or Y button as quickly as possible. Treat it like a 300 degree hot burner.

2. If you're hanging on the ledge, simply tap down to fast fall or to the side then jump while at the same time performing a backward air attack. Be prepared to use your up B afterward to make it back to the edge. This takes practice.

3. I DI with just the control stick and do just fine. For example, if you're hit horizontally to the right off the stage, you want to tilt the control stick in the upper-left position for maximum DI. There is also a thing called Smash DI, but that is waaaaay beyond your level to master.

4. You do not want to use the dancing blade 3rd down B combo off the stage. There are much safer, more accurate ways to edge guard. The dancing blade is best used if your opponent is really close to you and you need some space. It's a way of saying "back off, buddy!"

5. Y button is JUST FINE FOR JUMPING!!! Many pros use the Y button instead of the X button, or the Y button and the X button. Whatever you're used to using is the best choice. I personally use just the X button.

Hope this helped.
