Smash Ace
I can't play melee, and I'm very envious of those that can play Melee at a high level. I can, however, play Sm4sh competitively with the slower game speed. While the fundamentals of reads are mostly the same, the speed is what sets Melee apart from Sm4sh. Reaction times and the speed of inputs from top players are absolutely incredible, and it sets another barrier for entry to the competitive scene. Sm4sh lacks a speed barrier and while fast reaction time helps, it doesn't set players apart that much (barring perhaps, Shiek).
I believe the amount of hate for Sm4sh comes from the lack of the barrier, not so much the lack of speed (although that still has a lot to do with it). That lack of barrier brought in a lot of gamers to the competitive scene, a lot of people with a lack of respect, with a lack of knowledge of history, with a lack of understanding of the culture of the smash scene.
Melee gets hate from Sm4sh players because Melee players don't acknowledge them because their game lacks the barrier. They don't understand that there is a lot of history to the scene and that the culture really matters, they are the newcomers and think that Melee is old and washed up, while in reality the metagame is still strongly being developed.
While there are those that just hate for the sake of hating, I think if we just made it less difficult to learn about Smash history we would have much less conflict between the two sides. I think a little understanding goes a long way, but the rest of the community has to be patient with newcomers. But I'm not the best problem solver so I'd like to hear your ideas for solutions. It's very important that we keep the community together so instead of pointing fingers we need to start thinking on how to fix it.
Please keep replies to solving the problem, while I understand that identifying the problems are important, they tend to start flame wars, and if what I said above offended you, sorry, I'm trying to get to the truth. Don't say stuff like "Melee elitists need to xyzy." Solutions people solutions!!!!
