There's an issue across most controllers I'm sure most of us have faced - the system acts like the controller's joystick is tilted in a direction when it's not. When starting up Smash Bros. you'll find the game just keeps highlighting the different modes. Usually when this happens people just unplug and replug the controller. Or with wireless controllers they will take out the battery and put it back in.

This is not an option with the Wii U Pro Controller though, so what can one do if they are having this issue? Must you reset the Wii U? No. Here are the different options:

-- The controller's off button - If you have a paperclip nearby this is the fastest way. Press the button in that little hole on the back of the controller. It turns it off right away.
-- Change Order - Use a different controller to open up the home menu. Go to controller setting -> Settings (under the picture of the wii remote) -> Change Order -> Press A with the controller(s).
-- Resync the controller - Press the red sync button on the back of the Pro Controller. Then, bring your controller with you as you go to your Wii U and press its red sync button. Let the two sync again.
-- The easy but slower way (the lazy way) -- Press the sync button on the back of the controller and rather than getting up to sync it just let it time out. It will still be connected to your Wii U, but it would have been faster to get up and press the Wii U's sync button.

---------- Prevent the issue from happening in the first place - Don't have your joystick tilted when you turn the controller on.
I've found that at least with the Wii U Pro Controller the issue arises when you have the joystick of the controller tilted to a side when you turn it on. The system will act like it's tilted in the opposite direction that you had it tilted. It seems to calibrate as if the spot you had it tilted to is the middle. If the actual joystick is in the middle, resting spot, then it believes it is being tilted far in the direction opposite of where you had it tilted when you turned it on. This may be true for other controllers as well, but I can't find any information about it online.
I hope this helps =]

I like this thread. I wonder if there's a way to reset it by holding buttons like the Gamecube controller has.
