So, will most of your online battles be random or with friends?

I'm not sure at the moment. I'd prefer fighting with people I know and being able to play someone with a similar skill level as mine. I live in Korea with an Wii bought in the U.S. It lags like hell in Mario Strikers Charged's random battles but are alright with friend codes, so I might end up doing a lot of friend battles with people I meet online if that's the same case for Brawl..

So, what do you think you'll do? Will you use more of the "Play Anyone" option or use friend codes most of the time?

When friends are on, friends. When they aren't, random battles. Though, given how EPIC Brawl will be, I doubt there will be very much time when at least ONE friend won't be logged on...
That will probably be my case, depending on how many slots there are for friend codes.

I agree with you. But also all of us here on smashboards will probably have alot of people from here on our friends list to play with considering we have a thread specifically for that (and there will probably be more). But fighting random people seems a bit entertaining and I hope they eventually make it so that you can see your opponents name and have the ability to send them a friend request.

Friends because you can set the rules to what you want and you know your oppent is at a skill level you want.

I would like to use random to warm myself up for the day, then go against my friend(s) if any are online. Otherwise I will just fight more random people, yah for random people :p

"With friends" for me, but I plan on getting as many friend codes from smashboards and then playing against those people randomly, so it'll kinda be like playing "with anyone," except I get to do one on one battles, pick stages and items, and adjust the rules. Also, I'll actually have a record since "with friends" does keep track of wins, losses, and all of that other good stuff.

I'll do "with anyone" if I feel like showing off since I'm sure most people using that mode won't be skilled players. Maybe it'll inspire them to get better and boost the competitive scene's popularity (assuming Brawl has a competitive scene).

I'm going to wait until they add a ranking system and voice capabilities...
So in other words you're not going to play online?

I'll mainly play with friends because you're forced to play with multiple people unless someone shows up with basic Brawl and free for all with multiple people just gets annoying. Especially when it seems like we are stuck with 2 minute timed matches so everyone will be going after the person with the highest percent.

Unless they implement some kind of locational based/worldwide ranking system, the "play with anyone" will be too unreliable. As a competitive smasher, I know that the large majority of players are casual, and I really don't expect the odds to come into my favor that I will get much practice with random people.

I am interested to see what playstyle takes over the "play with anyone" scene though. I see two scenarios:

A) Play with anyone becomes too random and too "kiddie" too play on a serious level or for competition's sake. This is more than likely , since this is a technically a party game, and I know if i have little cousins come over for family things, i can just plop them online and shut them up. (this is the most probable outcome) With the feature of a CPU taking over dropped players, I really don't see this being plausible for "tourney-training"

B) Play with anyone becomes popular in the tournament scene, and it actively used for regulated practice for those who want more variation than their friendlist can hold. It will become common knowledge that no casual player will go online to play due to the high number of serious players, and the low chance of winning matches. (this outcome is unlikely)

I don't have friends who play either Melee or will play Brawl. They'll try, but it's not that I can visit them all the time (and vice versa). I don't have anyone in my neighborhood who's really friends with me, so I don't bother with that.

Now friends by sharing Wii codes on SWF now, that's a different thing. I'll probably use it a lot. I'll play "With anyone" very often, so the battles are always fresh and unexpected. ^^

But firstly, I'm going with the second one, with anyone, since I have yet to find some who are willing to play Brawl with me (yeah, I know of some, but Europe gets Brawl later, so they might've forgotten it till then)

Okay lets put it this way. I'll add as many people as I can from here that are around my skill level. If not, Random FTW.

Probably with friends. I really don't enjoy playing games online a lot because I usually run into immature players that will probably taunt every other second or something of that nature. =/

With friends, for the majority. I just don't really feel that playing with a nameless, faceless, speechless person (who may infact be an actual cpu) is very entertaining.

I don't get where people are getting the idea that With Anyone is only timed. Can someone explain? Anyways, I'll probably play Friends a ton and With Anyone if I'm bored with CPU's and no friends are on.
