Yeah, I remember the whole drama about the name. I thought we all decided to call it whatever we wanted though. I like Ink Dropping, it has a nice ring to it.

In match 5 on the Eldin bridge, at some point, Dedede uses his dash attack I believe. He rushes forward and faceplants like in the Kirby games. That's not the same as the "ink drop" which is just basically tripping.

I'm almost confident that this is him missing a dash grab. He does it right after doing the down throw where he always seems to go for another grab immediately.

Edit: nevermind, I'm talking about the rolling, not the faceplant.

there are instances where DeDeDe does a faceplant then rolls out of it. Ike has done it too. I'll watch the videos again and give out times.

I wonder if I'm the only one here who still doesn't know what Ink Dropping is.
Or Wavedashing, for that matter.
I bet though, that I'm the only one that doesn't care.

How often could something like this even present itself in the game, anyway?

I didn't see Dedede trip once. However, if you want to see a trip, watch the Subspace Emissary vid of Mario and Kirby. Somewhere in there, Mario seems to be heading for some attack, but trips instead.

By they way, "Ink Drop" was exposed by Gimpyfish as a fraudulent name, because the response to it was absurd. The name for the mechanic, as I recall was considered just to be "tripping," because... well, the character trips.

Now, it is possible, supposedly, to cancel the trip animation, but that's not an Ink drop. The event was rare enough that no name was really given for it.

Yeah, I know all that. I was here when the bombshell blew up. I still like the name so I still call it Ink Dropping.

The first link in the OP is the clearest example of this. It seems like Ike tried to turn around mid-dash and tripped as a result. It doesn't seem to be that simple though or the E4All people wouldn't have had such a hard time figuring out how it works. We'll just have to wait until someone can verify it personally.

Dedede's rolling is just him missing a grab, and the faceplant is his dash attack.

isn't that just King Dedede failing at a grab?
Someones already said this.

It's really hard to make out what happened to Ike, the quality is atrocious on youtube, none the less, it's one of the best matches we have of brawl so far.

They should really play some more stages, I mean I know SmashVille seems to be the most neutral stage in that selection. But still, they only played one other map and it was Eldin Bridge... Is there something wrong with Lylat Cruise?

Does it seem to happen at any particular time? Or maybe more often with certain characters? Could it be a way to limit combos so that perhaps massively huge combos aren't possible? I really have no idea...
