...so what's the big APEX surprise?

Hey guys,

I've heard that (since Nintendo's the official sponsor this time) at some point, there should be some kind of surprise or announcement at the current-running Apex tournament. Or did I miss it already?

This clip seems to relate to Splatoon, but nonetheless, I heard there's something more: Did D1 Accidently Reveal Something BIG for APEX at Paragon Yesterday? Splatoon? Mewtwo? (FOOTAGE)

My question is why did J.C tweet there were more coming? Are there going to be more announcements after APEX? This is all very confusing. @ Narth : Yeah, that tournament really got my hopes up, but at least APEX seems to have more excitement about it unlike at Comic-Con which kinda' felt boring to me. Although, I still hope that this is not the case and the "announcement" is something exciting.

@ Rymi : Yeah, it was playable, but no one probably got to try it out due to the booth being at the old place where APEX was kicked out from. So, it was barely there.

Well, that was a disappointment. I thought they were going to tease something great. Maybe they didn't show it due to Apex getting delayed? That was a crush in the heart for me at least. They could have said the announcement was delayed! At least the tournament was good.

He's a veteran, not a newcomer. And missing a game wouldn't affect that either, since Doc didn't get one.

I think he would. I see your point about Dr Mario, but he was a clone, and there were no special circumstances surrounding him.

On the other hand, Mewtwo is a unique fighter, and we know nothing about his moveset, as it could be vastly different from Melee. It would generate more hype as Sakurai knows he was a desired character. Also, in the direct, the announcer called him a "new" fighter, which may mean he could get a trailer. I think it would be silly for Mewtwo not to get a trailer, but that's just my two cents.

@Opossum: Mewtwo being a non-newcomer does hurt his chances of having his own trailer, provided there is not another newcomer in the trailer. So he could still be in a trailer, but not in his own trailer.

The thing with this entire announcement is that I'm not all that disappointed that it didn't happen. I'm just confused on why it didn't happen. They barely talked about it during the show and speculation went into overdrive which confused me more. Different things were being said at the same time. So, it makes me think that if the APEX tragedy never happened, we would have heard the announcement by now. Its all very weird.

Captain Falcon kind of got a trailer, and he's more of a vet then Mewtwo.
Nintendo is missing some huge opportunities with this game. I understand Sakurai is wiped out, but you can't just ship out a game and retire. There is still tons of potential this game still has, but Nintendo may never snap out of the funk they're in and get their act together.

He could get a trailer because he's DLC. Maybe not even with a flashy cutscene but just gameplay footage. I really don't see them being like "yeah so here's Mewtwo but you're gonna have to wait until you get him to see what he looks like in-game!". I mean yeah it's already been announced but the Mario Kart 8 DLC was announced a few months beforehand and then given trailers.

i dont think thats the problem(well for me it isent) nintendo said that there was more info after splatoon at apex was announced. im not saying that i was expecting a trailer but i was expecting something

I honestly don't know what happened. They could have just dropped the announcement due to time constraints and saved it for a later date. I mean, look at the tweet from JC. He said there would be more. Who knows? This could have been all a set up to get people to watch Apex. I honestly don't know for sure. My question is if JC is allowed to respond on his twitter account, maybe one of us can ask him if there was suppose to be an announcement at all (I can't since I don't have a twitter account). Or at least something to get hype for down the road.

If Mewtwo where to get a trailer of some sort, the most I'd expect is a gameplay trailer similar to what Sonic got when he was first announced. I do agree that i'd be quite surprised if it got something at the level of the Smash 4 newcomers.
