So was Pac-Man really in the clouds?

Inspired by this thread.

So as most of us know, Pac-Man was speculated to be hinted at by some uncannily-shaped clouds in the background of Greninja's trailer.

While many who believed this to be an intentional hint were scoffed at as foolishly grasping at straws and dismissed (the "Ridley in the clouds" phenomenon from pre-Brawl not helping matters), Pac-Man ended up being revealed as a playable character nonetheless. Was Sakurai aware of the "Ridley in the clouds" backlash and decide to use reverse psychology on us? Did he simply want to hint at another newcomer? Was any of this fervent, GameXplain-fueled theorizing grounded in a legitimate basis, or were the clouds just a lucky coincidence?

This doesn't look nearly as close as the SSE clouds did to their respective characters, and even then I still find the SSE clouds very iffy (Ganondorf and Ridley are really reaching it imo.) I think it's pure coincidence.

I think it was just coincidence that the clouds looked like that. I will admit that I can't unsee it now though. Once you know that Pac-Man shape is there, you can't not see it. So maybe it was intentional.

I wish someone had asked this question during the roundtable. xD

This might be a stretch (like it already wasn't) but what if there is something else in the clouds that everyone missed? Maybe there are easter-egg hints in other trailers as well. Hmm...

I dont think it was intentional. It isnt exactly a very complicated shape to make, it really only needs a cone in a semicircle, which is all it is, the outter right edge is not super well defined.

Jokes aside: The clouds were probably automatically generated in literally like a minute and no one tried to make anything from them.

That's not Pac-Man. That's Pac-Cloud! He's the ultimate secret character and the only way to unlock him is to unlock Pac-Man in Smash 64, Melee, and Brawl. Yes, Pac-Man is the ultimate hidden character this whole time, and is actually the hidden veteran he never knew about. but he gave his role to Pac-Cloud.
