It could easily be like SSBM where you can just switch in an out controllers or what not.. I mean, it's not all THAT hard to do..
I wouldn't be too surprised if you could do it over Wi-Fi though, but it'd probably be only people on your friends list though. I dunno, we'll see.

Nothing connecting wifi and tourney mode has been announced, so theres no way to tell. But telling from melee, you could have up to 64 HUMANS by just using 4 controllers, so it'll more than less be the same.
