So me and my friends just played an... interesting version of Special Brawl

I brought up the idea of playing the game like divekick. We went to special versus and went sudden death. Afterwards, we decided characters with down a's/b's that send them in a downward motion can be used. We allowed movement and full utility of jumps and... it got pretty intense. Divekick with movement and wavedash is really, really fun.

And Falco is still top tier.

Divekick mode sounds awesome, really. Like all your aerials (or maybe just down air) could be adjusted to always send you at sharp forward angles toward the ground just for the mode.

Best thing ever invented by man.

We decided against them, the characters we used were as followed:

Meta Knight
Falco
Bowser
Sheik
Sonic
ZZS
Dedede (his up b)
Captain Falcon
Ganondorf

Most other characters didn't really work, but feel free to experiment.

Wolf's down air doesn't use his feet
Fox's doesn't kill, you can try it if you'd like. It's unlikely to kill however.

My friends and I have Judgment fights as well. We work out a cycle of who hits whom in what order and then do nothing but take turns slapping each other with it. We call it Russian Roulette.

just set a stamina mode up for 1% and do divekick mode that way.

or can you not set stamina to 1% in the special options?

and i agree with only using moves that actually dive as they're used, for what it's worth : p

1 Stamina literally last 5 seconds. We went sudden death 10 stock and it got pretty chaotic pretty fast. Especially in 4 player free for all

though... 1% stamina match with stocks would be super great...

dude this mode sounds ****ing sweet, I'm gonna try to get my friends to play it with me when 3.0 comes out (they are all in cryo-sleep until the 9th)

Nah, it's better in Melee, since the momentum carries more and the effects are better.

I'd say the Falcon Punch tiers go...
Melee > Project M > Brawl > Brawl + > Smash 64 > Balanced Brawl

so, yeah, we've been playing this the last couple of days and it's pretty fun : D you were totally right about it needing stocks. there's just really no other way to do it feasibly and have it be fun.

in the end we allowed:
ganon, falcon, bowser, zss: down b only
sonic, mk, ivy, wario: down air only
fox, falco, wolf, lucario: up b, but has to be angled down somehow

bowser was just trash, poor guy : ( zss is pretty tricky, since she's one of two characters who can kick behind her, but her setup's super slow, so she's mid tier at best. ganon's too slow, buti n ffa's, he can get a lot of random kills with his shockwave and some good timing. sonic's a beast, since he's so fast he can punish things super easy. mk is like a combo of zss and sonic, with SO MANY JUMPS, the ability to pseudo kick behind him (needing to jump first), and anglable kick, and good ground speed. we thought he might be too good, then we met the terror that is ivysaur's uair... i think we decided she wasn't allowed anymore on our last game of the night.

surprisingly, space animals upb isn't so good (wolf's being notably faster to startup, though, was great). the ability to go through platforms was really good for them, though.

i'd really like to find a way to have stock-stamina for this, so we can give big characters more hits or something, though. think that might make it more even. #pipedream
