Smash Apprentice
So, we can all see the big picture right now; Mewtwo is just around the corner with Lucas to follow soon after. Datamining suggests the return of a Melee veteran and possibly a second 3rd party rep for Capcom. On top of all this, we have a vote for a new DLC character taking place until October AND costume packs AND a new stage coming whenever (the Miiverse one, for those wondering). However, there hasn't really been an indication of the DLC stopping. While Sakurai has been "quoted" to say he doesn't like the idea of DLC (though, iirc, this was more focused on day 1 DLC, or stuff that is on the disc but locked behind a paywall), yet everyone and their mum knows how much of a cash cow the Smash Bros. franchise is. Considering how we only seem to get a Smash Bros. around every three quaters of a decade, I can certainly see Nintendo using DLC as a method of extending the longevity and profits of not just Smash 4, but also any future instalments. We already know that the Mii Costume pack is only in Wave 1 right now, so it's all but confirmed that more is coming. As well as this, the possible inclusion of Ryu has led me to formulate a theory; Through the use of DLC, it is possible, maybe even likely, that both SEGA and Namco Bandai will also strengthen their third party contributions past what we've already seen. It's not out of the realm of possibility that we may see fighters like Ristar or Klonoa show up in the future. As well as this, there has been a lot of suggestions and speculation about the possibility and probability of stage packs akin to Mario Kart 8 and what they could bring to the game. Considering Nintendo's current success with this business model, especially with the aforementioned Mario Kart 8 DLC, I'd wager it's more than likely that even just retro stage packs could become a thing. Still, what do you guys think?
