Snake's Shield Drop Grenade Throw

Just wondering, Why is it that people Wavedash after shield-dropping their grenades and then throw it? Why can't you just press A on the ground and toss it? It feels like an extra step which I screw up all the time (Especially being a keyboard exclusive player)

Wavedashing out of shield is the quickest way to pick up a shield dropped grenade, and it has the added benefit of letting you reposition yourself a bit before the throw.
