In the latest issue of GamePro, there is a big feature on 'The 48 Best Games of 2008'. It has about a paragraph on why you should care and why you shouldn't for each of the 48 games.

Now, for about three months magazines have been doing Brawl articles, and aside from the occasional screen, we havn't had anything new. But, this time, as sentace reads "This lighthearted fighting game features a host of cool Nintendo-themed environments, offers great power-ups, excellent weaponry (you can even whack foes with Solid Snake's cardboard box!), and online play via Nintendo's WiFi Connection."

So now the box is a taunt, AND an item?

This does lead to the ability to confuse foes, maybe. If a box as an item appears and you are playing as Snake, maybe you could quickly do your taunt right next to it, if the player wasnt paying attention, they may not know which one is which.

And for those who were wondering, Brawl came in at 30 in the top 48 games of 2008. It is right in between Tom Clancy's Endwar and Gran Turismo 5. According to the last page of the issue, next month will also be GamePro's Brawl preview issue.

EDIT: OK, OK it's not a shield. My mistake. Sorry.

it's not a shield. It's a taunt and when you take the box off it probably still lingers around and you'll be able to pick it up and throw it at your opponents. Simple as that.

This is probably the most logical explanation.

In one video, it showed mario pick the box up and snake was still sitting safely under it.

One of Snake's taunt (probably down) puts him in a box. Other characters can lift that box off of him. Evidence:

1. "Three Different Taunts" update (confirmed a taunt)
2. "Snake Joins the Brawl" video (Mario lifts it off him)

Yeah, but GamePro = f*g anyways...

Imagine KOing someone with the box. On their last life, too. EPIC WIN.

Are you kidding me?!!??! Now, maybe, MAYBE I can imagine 4 games better than Brawl ... wait, nevermind. I can't. But granted, I'm biased.

But 30?!??! I mean, c'mon!!! That's just sad!!! I guarantee that Brawl will outlast and outsell the vast majority of those games. We're talking about the MOST ANTICIPATED Nintendo title of the past 5 years, not Gran Turismo.

I myself have come to the conclusion that Gamepro's writing team and editorial staff are sniffing way too much glue these days. I mean really, how can they put Brawl at #30 out of 2008s upcoming titles. Their brains are simply not functioning properly. So I suggest they stop stealing glue and do away with the brown paper baggy. Well, its not like they have a good magazine anyhow. While once a decent source of gaming info back in the 90s , theyve long since fallen from grace.
