okay, I understand why Smooth Lander equipment messes up the games balance

BUT, who is to say the game was perfectly balanced to begin with???

Smooth Lander can be our chance to balance the game however we see fit, based off tier lists like SBR or eventhubs etc. or top smash players thoughts.

For example I hear people complaining about sheiks speed or zerosuits in SLHG

So how bout we decrease their speed with other equipments??? We can nerf and buff however we see fit!

I really would like to see SLHG in tourneys someday...this mode is too fun to pass off!!!

what do you guys think?

I think we need to see a proper side event before we know if it needs fixing, or what needs to be fixed.

The title of the thread is a bit misleading, since the thread is about much more than just Smooth Lander + Heavy G, but I think the premise is interesting.

Even if Sakurai does no more balancing, you're right that we could balance it ourselves by mandating custom equipment. The issue is: How to make everyone agree, and how to ensure everyone can practice with the correct equipment?

I suggest we just keep spreading the word, I am just recently finding out about this through youtube videos on accident lol its also why i joined smashboards yesterday, i think a lot of people dont know about SLGH either... maybe just posting awesome sauce combos from youtube could help more people get intrested, or even suggest it to people in 'power' haha

I still don't get why people automatically equate Smooth Lander and/or heavy gravity with balance. The game was balanced around the physics it actually has, and it's pretty darn balanced as is and changing something huge like that would almost certainly throw it off.

Pretty sure heavy gravity would also seriously hamper anyone with physics based recoveries wouldn't it?

Smooth Lander+Heavy G simply doesn't feel complete with tanooki suits on. They let everyone float, so everyone has at least an okay recovery and amazing movement on stage.

Badges cannot be used for balance. The logistics are astounding and getting a correct set out there to everyone is a task near impossible.

Further, who will do the balancing? How will balance be maintained between systems? At least with SL it's consistent where and how it comes out.

SL is a hard sell. SL+HG is even harder. SL+HG+balance through badges? Good luck.

Equipment can be a fun side event, but I don't think it should replace regular play. Especially since there's no current evident need for Smooth Lander.
