okay, I understand why Smooth Lander equipment messes up the games balance

BUT, who is to say the game was perfectly balanced to begin with???

Smooth Lander can be our chance to balance the game however we see fit, based off tier lists like SBR or eventhubs etc. or top smash players thoughts.

For example I hear people complaining about sheiks speed or zerosuits in SLHG

So how bout we decrease their speed with other equipments??? We can nerf and buff however we see fit!

I really would like to see SLHG in tourneys someday...this mode is too fun to pass off!!!

what do you guys think?

Over-complicating something that's already been dismissed as a side casual event at most. Let's balance around the game itself.

we can do that with custom equipment if the smash government passes a bill to unban using it in tournaments for the sake of balancing~

Okay, let me lay down a situation for you.

I am at home, with my copy of smash 4 and playing it. I'm playing for glory, and im getting pretty good. I decide to go to at tournament, and suddenly im at an extreme disadvantage. Im at a disadvantage because the game I played and practiced at home is not the game Im playing at this tournament. Every character has different physics, meaning the combos i practiced and the experience I gained is all for nothing.

You can mess with stages, with custom specials, with items, with time/stock/coin mode or whatever else. You cant mess with the way the game is played. You cant mess with the physics of a physics fighter. If I go home and press a series of buttons, and then press those same buttons at your tournament, they need to do the same thing. Otherwise the only person comfortable with the game are the people that played with that specific wiiu, and thats not fair in the slightest.

Well if you just go to a Melee tournament with the knowledge of advanced tech like wavedashing or L cancelling then you are at a disadvantage too.

I would want SL+HD as a side or other event though.

This may be too much. Smooth Landing is fine. But Gravity is not applicable to the 3DS version. Slight equipment would be okay, but it has to be severely regulated.

That's one of the few equipment that could legitimately be okay. There is a ton of broken equipment, and changing up most of your stats isn't really a good idea. It makes it impossible to gauge a tier list or figure out what combinations might be banworthy. Part of why the tier lists doesn't use customs is to figure out a slightly decent one. Problem is Mii Fighters. They're next to impossible to gauge since their specials are determined before you can select them at all. Their "first" special of each category is possible to make a tier list out of, though. Also, Palutena is severely different depending upon her specials, so she's pretty hard to figure out. Her default version is not that good, though.

custom equipment could be a good idea later on for certain characters that need speed/atk/def buffs and nerfs though, especially if sakurai stops patching. but your right it is risky, but maybe in the future when everybody figures out the game and what not. im sure it would be a good idea to use it to buff and make low tiers better, high tiers should be banned from having ot unless we find out there becoming a hassle like diddy, then in that case we use it to change his stats nerfing and buffing what we see fit. although i still think diddy is beatable since i've seen mr.e's Marth beat mew2kings diddy, and Nairo's D. pit beat Nakats.

Lying about my country.
I'm not even a tournament player, and the idea of making a specific item the competitive standard makes me cringe.

It just seems completely pointless, all you're doing with that is needlessly making the game more complicated.

The problem is, making a "fair" nerf isn't agreeable enough. Something that slightly affects a match is fine. Smooth Lander is different from those, since those actually require you to weaken a character unfairly. Smooth Lander is just effectively L-Cancelling in a balanced way. Nothing else really is equivalent to that. I support this one, but unless completely reasonable equipment like this is found, well...

It's a very healthy competitive standard to set. And it has to be one that affects the Wii U and 3DS equally.

i just wanna see it as a side option in the future as a side special tourney, i know im asking too much to make this a standard, but i can dream for at least a on the side tourney right? i mean...its there, sakurai secretly left it for us...lol

Nah, asking solely for Smooth Lander is not an issue. Asking for severe changes like lowering Diddy's power is an issue. Any equipment much be completely reasonable, and people are okay with customizations at times. Neutral ones that don't cause issues are okay. IMO, this would severely make every character way more viable. While the tier list would not heavily change due to this, it may make a few able to not auto-die due to landing lag. That's what made Brawl unbearable at times and severely made many unviable. Ganondorf became virtually unplayable due it alone. In Smash 4, he's far more improved due to super armor and an immense power upgrade. I think he may have increased speed, too. But I feel every character is ultimately viable now since they made everyone buffed in some way. Clearly some are better, but it has a very tight balance. It's not much higher than 64's balance either. Although no one is severely on top at this time, that we can tell. That could change. But nobody was virtually unplayable in tourneys either. Melee had all playable characters too in general tourneys. Some better than others, obviously. Brawl is the only actual game to made it so some characters cannot compete at all outside of low tier tourneys or with a character banned. That's blatantly awful balance.
