although almost all gamers are pretty lethargic and stuff, i noticed that smashers are an exception to this... many of my friends that are good smashers are actually excellent athletes...(i personally am on varsity cross-country and perhaps tennis) anybody know why? post your favorite sport or activity outside of smash please.

(P.S.) maybe its because of all work our fingers have to do and high hand-eye coordination we need that makes us good at sports...

It's because we have sweet skizals

Really, I just think it's because Melee is a kind of learn and never forget kind of game. You can go month without playing and regain your skill in a day or two, so you have plenty of spare time

Lots of games with a fan-base composed of obese teenagers require fast fingers and hand-eye coordination. Given that you're not imagining what you're seeing, I would say SSBM is a game that is more of a hobby-type game, than, say, World of Warcraft.

Smash is muscle memory at some points, so playing non stop for a week, then not playing for a month, you should regain the skill pretty easily. And I also think that this game doesn't have that addicting feeling. Smash is my favorite game, don't get me wrong. But I think that WoW is made to be addictive because it's monthly and they need you to keep playing and is updtaed regularly. Same as GW and other games. They need you you to be hooked so you can buy more. With Smash, once you buy it, Nintendo doesn't care how much you play because you have already bought a Wii/Brawl (System/Game etc.) and the next game will take 2-5 years until it comes out.

Just IMO.

I have to admit, there was like a one month period after I hosted my last tournament in which I didn't play, and I played for the first time since last night, and although it usually takes one match to get warmed up with my mains, shffl is muscle memory.

And I play varsity football and most of my friends like to play too. We're not pro caliber, but we do local tournaments and stuff in driving distance.

I love competition. I have yet to attend any tournaments other than ones between my schoolmates, but I am very much into advanced play of SSBM.

My love for competition is outside of SSBM also. I enjoy playing many sports, although my favorites are basketball and football. I must say that I'm not that bad at either Anything that allows me to get physical with the opposition is my kind of sport. Oh, and I also have a growing love for ultimate frisbee. Lol

Same here, I run track, and played basketball in High School. My other friends who play Smash are or were involved in some kind of sport as well.

Athletic is the least you can say about me. But I'm not all serious about smash either... But I guess my long life as a gamer is enough to play smash at a pretty decent level.

Heh, ultimate frisbee is sweet. It doesn't mesh up with football well so I'll have to wait till spring season.

Meh, I used to be big into skateboarding, snowboarding, hockey, soccer, and biking. Now I mostly just bike, I dont do any sports.

Ive always played piano though and I think it helps my smash game since my fingers are f***ing leet.
