Welcome back to SmashCAP - a community centered Pokemon project where we create, design, and playtest Pokemon for the competitive metagame. As Generation V and the first round of OU suspect nominations and testing draws near, I'd like to present you the first step in the return of SmashCAP: revisions on the first three SmashCAP - Calderan, Lilibelle, and Zook. Each of these CAP need to be revised to fit more comfortably in the Generation V metagame, so let's take a look at what we have.

For those of you who are new, you can check out the SmashCAP Database for full information on Calderan. But just to recap for convenience' sake.

Revisions: What do you think would need to be changed about SmashCAP 1 / Calderan? Is there anything you think that needs to be done about his movepool? Ability changes*? A different spread on his base stats? No changes at all? How well would Calderan as he is now fit into the Black / White metagame? What about if there were changes? These are all types of questions you could address in this revision thread.

*Speaking of abilities, we could technically just give him a completely new ability for a Dream World ability, since those don't need to be released by Nintendo. :)

Bulky offense isn't very good anymore. This guy is competing with Nattorei as physical wall and with Burungeru as bulky water.

Boiling Water is a given. Level Ground could be cool.

Level Ground would be a neat addition to his movepool, but would that be used more often than Earth Power or Earthquake? I understand the chance to lower Speed is huge, but the good output from Earth Power doesn't make it seem like Level Ground would be as good?

I dunno. Just my thoughts on that.

There are a few niches missing in this metagame that I want to see filled. Well guess what, only Calderan can fill them.

Water/Ground with Unaware. Run 252/252 Impish and Dory AND Terakion are threats no more. It also can provide a good answer to Inconsistent users, negating all their boosts (bar speed, which is negligible), of which he can put a dent in with Earthquake.

Calderan is an amazing utility wall, he just needs slight tweaks to make it through the new metagame. Specifically, a raise in HP from 85 to 95, and a raise in attack from 80 to 85. Calderan would absolutely love to take some new, stronger hits better, and have some better ability to attack on his own. This would give him a BST of 555, still putting him in an average range for stats.

I'd also love to see a dream world ability added to Calderan. I've got a good list right here for abilities that would fit Calderan and expand his playstyle, such as:
Intimidate, Encourage, Overconfidence, Mold Breaker, Own Tempo, Rough Skin, Sand Veil, Sturdy, and Water Absorb.

All these abilities can fit Calderan, its just picking which one.
