Smash Apprentice
Before I can even remember, there used to be a Smash Bros website:
http://web.archive.org/web/19991129023828/smashbros.com/enter.html
It offered what a simple video game website did back in 1999. Good ol' fashioned info.
After Melee was released, smashbros.com turned into another typical game site with information on the game, characters, and stages. Unlike most sites, however, it slowly got updated (two times a month or more frequently) with secret character updates, move names, and I think even videos demonstrating them. There was even a Smash Mail feature that let you send friends trivial mail with Smash illustrations:
http://web.archive.org/web/20011204183455/www.smashbros.com/battle/index.html
Last year, smashbros.com was updated quite a bit with Sakurai's translated journal entries. It even served as a basis for Japanese fans to submit their ideas for characters and music inclusions in Brawl.
In early 2007, the site started releasing new character information and officlal artwork for Brawl.
In May, it turned into the "Dojo" that it is today with daily weekday updates of every part of the game.
After December 3 the site won't automatically change from day to night, but slowly will it turn into what the Melee site was years ago? Will it include a complete character roster, movesets, and video (not just in the same blog format that it is now, but in a more orderly "game site" format)?
Will we care so much about smashbros.com after Brawl is released?
