Smash Ace
So first off, the point of this thread is to discuss the compatibility between different versions of the game and compatibility with cross region Wii-U's.
As many of you know, the 3DS has a pretty solid region lock in place, meaning American copies of 3DS games can NOT be played on European(+Australian) or Japanese consoles and vice versa. This is also in place for 3DS E-Store items as you can only access your relevant countries E-Store from a same region 3DS.
Differences between games across regions are practically non-existent with current gen consoles(Not like how oldschool PAL games would only run at 5/6ths the speed of NTSC), with the only real difference being text. With that being said, most multiplayer games don't allow cross-region multiplayer.
However, some new games are coming out with full cross-region functionality, meaning Lan or online play (Or both) are not restricted.
For example;
Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Tested: US / JP
StreetPass: YES
Local MP: YES
Online MP: YES
Fire Emblem
Tested: US / JP
StreetPass: NO
Local MP: NO
Mario Kart 7
Tested: US / JP
Download Play: NO
StreetPass: YES
Local MP: NO
Online MP: YES
*I couldn't find US/EU/AU testing sadly
*Testing Source
So, I live in Australia, meaning everything around me that is region coded is Pal/European, however myself and a few other people I know have an American 3DS. We all get American copies of games as required and there's never really an issue, except for when it comes to multiplayer. So the question is, Will an American copy of Smash be able to play multiplayer with a European/Japanese copy?
I see this affecting many players in the future that travel internationally, imagine flying over to "Insert 2014 US major here" and only being able to play with other Europeans? It would be disappointing to say the least.
"No offence to European players "
Now, like I'm sure a lot of other players will do, I plan on getting the Wii-U and the 3DS version of smash, so the same issue arises again. Will an American 3DS/copy of smash connect with an Australian/EU Wii-U/copy of smash?
If anyone can find any information regarding region differences, connectivity, multiplayer etc. I would love to have a read, and I will do my best to keep this thread updated as best I can.
